Why does Scarecrow have so many terrible designs?

>>151810555Because most writers and artists fundamentally don't understand what horror is, or what makes something scary or not, so they resort to cliches.The reason a scarecrow is supposed to be scary, or the reason a slasher villain wears a mask, is the uncanny human form yet with a face devoid of emotion. The more it's disconnected from any emotion the more uncanny it is. If you add a giant evil grin on it then it turns into a Halloween decoration.

>>151810555I always liked that he's meant to be goofy and weak because the fear gas does most the work in actually making him scary, I don't really like takes that try to make him look actually scary because it misses the point of him basically being a loser. My favorite look is the one in his Knightfall arc personally, classic but more over the top and wild.
