Why are cape editorials seemingly unable to produce done-in-one stories any more? Why do they insist on padding everything for the trades? Pacing, characterization, internal logic,... everything suffers for it. And I don't blame editorial only, writers seem to have forgotten how to do those as well. Pic related. A six issue limited series that so far seems like it could've been told in half the space. This goes beyond decompressed storytelling, this is outright incompetence.
they do though, often as breaks in between arcs and stories. They just get no traction so you don't hear about them and you're not following any comics. It's a thing people say they want then no one shows up. Last one i remmeber getting some talk was the Flash intergalactic wrestling issue

>>151811823You don't stop at comic shops during new release day often, do ya.
>>151811823Done-in-one stories aren't very good or lasting outside of comedy series. Longer narratives are far better for action/adventure series. Most modern writers aren't good at either.
>>151811823Nobody wants them, and they especially don’t want to pay for them.
>>151811823It would be nice to get more self-contained issues or arcs that only last 2-3 issues. >>151812977Nta but I don't, mostly bc I don't have the money to pay for comics right now. Kek If I did, I'd be going to my LCS a lot more often. Mostly I've just been catching up by reading stuff I've missed out on online.

The current Batman run is focused on done in ones
Does anyone else miss how the early-mid 2000's had a lot of comics that told a lot of self-contained stories with enough plot threads hanging and being picked up here and there that they ended up forming a complete arc by the end? I'm talking stuff like Planetary or All Star Superman. It's an underrated as hell format that scratches both itches.
>>151814124that
I miss the 2000s breather issues in-between bigger arcs where the heroes would maybe stop some minor crime or focus on character development and the supporting castSpider-Man used to do this a lot pre-OMD.Modern Marvel doesn't believe in supporting casts or characterizations, so those are either gone or are a vehicle for more ragebait.
>>151811823It's harder to write a short story than it is a long story. A short done in one requires more careful plotting. More focus. The ability to actually get to the point. Modern writers can't do that.
