Is Marvel Rivals the only thing keeping Marvel as a whole afloat right now? A good chunk of their comic sales are low, getting dominated by DC currently, the MCU is on life support, and neither is looking to improve. Even ignoring the basic fapbait fanservice, the game is doing fun shit with the material in the season lore, and nearly every character is given due respect thanks to devs actually doing their homework. So my question is what can Marvel Comics learn from Rivals to bounce back, and what characters could be completely revitalized through the game?
They're making Galacta canon finally, so it's a first step.
I'm going to be honest. I've never touched a Marvel comic until after I started playing Marvel Rivals. All because I wanted to learn more about the characters.
>>151813499Yeah that's happening on Storm's next book, right?
>>151813499depends on how well she's adapted. her oneshot was fun but as part of a larger universe? with current Marvel? blegh
How much you wanna bet Disney is so desperate for asses in seats for Doomsday/Secret Wars that Galacta cameos?
>>151813987I do think they'd be kind of retarded to not capitalize on the one thing that's actually doing numbers (Rivals) but at the same time, this is still modern Disney we're talking about. No, I don't think they'll add Galacta references in any way, and lets be real here, would you actually want that?
>>151814014No but given how shameless they are about cameos and "Who's in the movie(s)?!", calling back the goddamn aging X-Men actors I'd say all bets are off. I'm thinking Howard The Duck tier one line. Like, a plot point being Doom finding Galactus, siphoning off his energy, and while the heroes try to pinpoint the exact reality Galactus is being held in they mistakenly encounter Galacta.Again I'm not saying I want, just saying Rivals has reached the point of popularity that a crossover wouldn't be out of the question.
Kinda weird how I'm more invested in the game lore than what I am with current Marvel stories. Even Season 2, which was directly pulling from Blood Hunt, kinda did it better by simply making it about Dracula instead of Varnae. But looking at the stuff Rivals has done in terms of stories:>X-Tron, an evolved version of Ultron that has a Mysterium body, Warlock's (X-Men not Adam) techno virus, and Cerebro integrated into his systems basically becoming a mechanical god>Queen in Black Hela, the goddess of death getting a power boost from Knull and briefly being his bride>"Equilibrium" power ups during the Klyntar conflict where guys like Cloak & Dagger, Venom, Bucky, and Blade get temporary Phoenix Force and Symbiote powers to fight Knull.>The Elders of The Universe deciding to merge all of their realms into one home. Guys like The Collector, Grandmaster, and Gardener all coexisting on a crazy amalgamed world>Daredevil becoming a warden/judge to one of the Heavenly Cities after his last pilgrimage to Hell
>>151814200>>Queen in Black Hela, the goddess of death getting a power boost from Knull and briefly being his bride>Cates sees this and says it was a cool idea>Suddenly
Is Galacta still pregnant in Rivals?
>>151813499If Galacta is canon then that means Galactus mpreg is also canon
>>151813287>Is Marvel Rivals the only thing keeping Marvel as a whole afloat right now?I think Disney will keep it alive as an IP farm regardless of what happens. But it doesn't really matter to them if it's in a the healthy state it could be or on permanent life support.
>>151814363I hope so.
>>151814200>I'm more invested in the game lore than what I am with current Marvel storiesit's probably because they're finally doing what the comics should be doing:taking their toys and playing with them. there's definitely a place and time for focusing on the every day side of super heros, but...people don't wanna read about tony stark running a business or peter parker struggling to make a living, no, they want read about them putting on a costume and kicking ass, and that's what rivals lore is doing. it's no wonder the comics is trying to scrape this game for ideas and is without a doubt going to fumble the concepts theyre stealing
>>151814610I think what makes the Rivals stories work is the same reason why DC's Absolute line is doing so well: It's multiverse done right, essentially just exploring cool ideas with the decades of material we've seen before but not in a cynical "nothing matters" kind of way.
>>151814400We don't really need to say shit like that anon.
>>151814363>You feed me energy from your own, far vaster power cosmic. ...Is this the equivalent of Galactus breast-feeding his daughter? >>151814662 >>151814400
