Beauty and the Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame are both massively overrated. Beauty in particular aged terribly and looks very rough because it is the first Disney feature to go all in on digital paint and ink. Some of the stills look like a bad 90s PC educational game.

I never understood why critics and fans thought The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast were witty or brilliant. And I still don't. The exceptions are musical numbers like Be Our Guest and the Beast himself, except for 2 or 3 sequences. The Little Mermaid, even with some of the budgetary constraints from the damaged, decaying state of 1980s Disney show from time to time in the character design and rough line work, was more consistent in the visual aspect.
