A typical MWC episode.
>>
>>151832007
My wife stumbled onto MWC recently. She grew up in a country that didn't have the show. She wound up binge watching the whole thing in about a week.

Also showed her Golden Girls and she loved that as well.
>>
>>151832975
She might also like M.A.S.H.
Granted I think it gets better when Winchester replaces Burn (and that's pretty far in), but the first few seasons are pretty good too.

one of the first TV sitcoms to have a realistic view of married life instead of the Father Knows Best fantasy that had been peddled for 30 years at that point

>Father Knows Best fantasy
You think mother knows best?
Or is there something more to 'father knows best' that I'm not getting from the name?
>>
>>151833403
Outside occasional exceptions network TV was really slow to leave the 50s behind because it was an old boys' club run by GI/Silent Generation executives and only when they began retiring in the 80s and boomers took over did edgier programming arrive.
>>
>>151833529
He's talking about the trend of sitcoms featuring a father who 'knew best' and all of the conflicts or problems were resolved by being guided by the father and doing as he said.
>>
>>151833671
yes the corny 50s style sitcom with the perfect happy family in it, which in the 80s still existed in the form of Full House and other shitty shit

In those sitcoms, the mother/uncle/neighbour never had advise?
,,,Was Wilson from Home Improvement a 'Father knows best' character? Tim was dumb, caused problems, and then went to Wilson for the solution.
>>
>>151833403
It was written as a parody of sitcoms
>>
>>151833808
If I remember correctly Wilson had a wild hippie daughter

>>
>>151833725
As I said, while boomers took over music and Hollywood quickly in the late 60s their parents' generation still pretty much ran network TV for 20 more years and continued peddling the same old 50s corn outside sporadic attempts at social commentary or edgier shows.

>>151833808
how could wilson solve this
>>
>>151834045
Thankfully, Wilson was open carrying at the time and, when he saw what would happen, fired multiple times into Tim's lawn to give him a plausible self-defense case.

>one of the first TV sitcoms to have a realistic view of married life instead of the Father Knows Best fantasy that had been peddled for 30 years at that point
The late 80s is when that spell broke entirely. Roseanne and The Simpsons were also more realistic than the bubblegum shlop that came before it. Simpsons was a parody but it was an earnest one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7Q-VAGtntc is a good example that a lot of married women would relate to even if the characters are a bit over the top at times to force the episode along.
>>
>>151834192
>Roseanne
Didn't they try to reboot/renew that series without Roseanne?
Also, if I remember right, the last season was full of surreal dream-sequence stuff.... which was odd for a sitcom.
>>
>>151834192
Dan was a good guy
>>
>>151834256
They revived it with the whole cast, retconning the last season. Then Roseanne tanked her career, and the last few seasons went on without her.
>>
I used to watch Married with Children in the morning on TBS before school.

Al Bundy is best written common man ever put to screen.
No amount of tits and early 90s bush would make me love that greedy vapid hag

Because that's what I want from my sitcoms.

Married With Children is genuinely a great show that I'm surprised didn't get talked about enough. I don't care if it's "trashy"
People always praised the Simpsons for being the first to depict a dysfunctional family
>>

Pretty sure both the character and actress were already 18 at the start of the show
That 70's Show was the sitcom with a 15 year old showing her panties

It was huge in the 90s. It was the shock humor that Fox use to rely on to be different from the other 3 major basic channels.

Al loves his family, he just doesnt like them.
His greatest treasure is hidden inside his beloved dodge in a copy of big uns: a picture of him with his family.
>>
>>151835657
It wasn't really that he got bored of her. Like you said he saw her more as a mistake that ruined his life. That being said he mostly never really put a fight when she wanted sex. He would just say he didn't want to while being dragged into the bedroom.
>>
>>151832975
I thought most countries had their own version of the show

That was all teen shows at the time.
Saved by the Bell overdid the wooooo shit every time someone looked at the camera.
>>
>>151833562
It's more like they jumped back into the sickeningly sweet perfect family shit in the early 80s.
70s sitcoms left a lot of that crap and were kind of similar to 90s stuff with a lot of real life type situations. But in the 80s there was a whole 50s flashback nostalgia thing happening and they made a shitload of perfect family sitcoms with a perfect dad in a sweater vest.

People got so sick of that shit that they started making parodies of it by 87-88.
>>
>>151834256
They actually killed her offscreen. They did the same thing with Dan years earlier then made that whole season a dream.
>>
>>151834719
Weirdly Al still stood by his family though. His wife was a thieving, lying piece of shit and his kids were little bastards, but he never left them, kept going to work and paying for the any damn way.

Al had loads of chances to cheat on Peggy but he never did.

This

Al was not a loser, he was a normal every day guy who did not want to deal with Marcy's PC bullshit, modern feminists, artsy shit, or any kind of fancy upper crust crap. He usually had episodes where something he liked was ruined like beer or baseball and he took a stand for the little guy over it and made an inspirational speech.

Marcy usually ruined things for him because she was a 90s era angry activist feminist type that ruined things for Al on purpose.

It was a real live audience. And the audience cheering for Al Bundy got so insane it started approaching the levels of a WWF wrestler making an entrance:

That video is edited as a joke but not by as much as you may think.

>Marcy usually ruined things for him because she was a 90s era angry activist feminist type that ruined things for Al on purpose.
She was whatever the writers didn't like that week
In some episodes she's an environmentalist feminist who hates men, in other episodes she's a big business loving self ascribed republican who could pave over a public park, both modes were still annoying nags who got offended at everything. That's what always fascinated me about her character
>>
>>151836015
I realized it was a real audience when I heard one audience member yell "GO AL!"

I hate this meme zoomer YouTubers tell that the Simpsons was super edgy for the time due to Bart saying stuff like "EAT MY SHORTS MAN". Married... With Children was another family sitcom from Fox that came out before and it was like constant non-stop sex jokes and showing off strippers.

90's also had stuff like the Jerry Springer Show airing during daylights time at the same time as stuff like Sesame Street and Blue's Clues with people going insane about fucking their sisters with constant words . But yeah "DON'T HAVE A COW MAN" was supposedly too much for 90's audiences to handle.
>>
>>151835876
>Weirdly Al
Say that again...
>>
>>151836245
Steve had the same evolution early in the show. He was a moralistic wimp controlled by his wife in the first season. Then he became the materialistic capitalist money grubbing opportunist that loved to display that he had lots of money. Then he was a jobless loser that didn't want to do anything with his life for the last few episodes he appeared in.

The worst part about Marcy is that she is no longer an extreme tv comedy caricature any longer. In the 2020s she is a very typical Karen social media activist type that just likes to fucking ruin major public things for people and uses being a feminist as a shield from any controversy she creates.

>[Al] usually had episodes where something he liked was ruined like beer
Modern shows like "The New Norm" or "Mr Birchum" are basically just doing that same bit. It's obvious they want to create a character like Al Bundy or Archie Bunker but are too incompetent to do it right. And even while trying desperately to seem non-woke still fail at being more politically incorrect compared to the likes of Married... With Children or All in the Family.

Literally everyone has said that for decades, every Simpsons fan has said that, a lot of shows inspired by the Simpsons have said that.
It's untrue if you watch MWC, but youtubers and "zoomers" didn't start it.

Shit like New Norm and Birchum are just made with annoying and pathetic resentment, seething, petty grievances and shit like that. Just the lamest shit the right has to offer.
There's no joy and whimsy in it like prime Married With Children or King of the Hill, and it's not like MWC wasn't angry or loved to sling shit either. It's why KotH was great but no one remembers the show Mike Judge did after that.
>>
It's still insane to me Peg and Leela are played by the same person
It wasn't until Futurama until I realized how cute her voice was
>>
>wife bad
>liberuls bad

>tfw wasted potential
mwc was the boomer equivalent of millennial relatable comics
