I really don't like Hush, as a character or concept or what he represents.
>>151837200What does he represent?
>>151837258The cynical, pretentious deconstructions of Batman as a genre
>>151837200I remember this arc being praised when it first came out, what's the consensus now?
>>151837512You're not going to get a serious answer on this board that hates every comic
>>151837258Trying to retroactively add a person we have never seen that is now supposed to be very important to Bruce Wayne's lore and past
>>151837512I seem to mostly recall people saying it was crap, but I don't doubt it got some praise too
>>151837657First time reading a comic, junior?
>>151837421I didn't think it was cynical. I think the entire point was to show that Bruce isn't just a result of the tragedy in his life and that after being tested by everything he was still true to the core of the character.
>>151837747This board doesn't know what it's bitching about. At this point we've gone so far full circle that they want the comics to go back to a man dressed up like a bat beating people up with shark repellant spray and there be no discussions about any themes
>>151837421>deconstruction of batman as a genrehow?
>>151838009Hush is, literally and metaphorically, a ghost from Bruce's past there to judge the character on his moral cores that make up Batman. It's therefore a deconstruction of what makes Batman what he is.
>>151837512Bad mystery, good art, a decent Batman 101 for its time
>>151837658It was the most successful comic of 2002 but go off, queen
>>151838200I'm pretty sure Identity Crisis and Civil War sold well too, but there were still plenty of people calling them shit
>>151837258Yet another "anti- Batman" like the ones that came before and will come again
>>151837658It's baby,'s first Batman and jin Lee's first Batman/DC work. It's carried entirely by the artwork as the story and hush was widely reviled when it came out and only notable for the fake out grin and gritty Jason Todd reveal, which was the only fucking thing to gain any traction after it ended, to the point that DC made Judd Winnick write a story retconning the story so that Jason did survive/confront Bruce in said story and the Clayface thing being retconned as him faking Bruce out after Bruce confirmed that he never cared for Jason
>>151838317I don't see him as an anti-batman, not in a way meant to critique the character anyway. The point of the character is that Batman wasn't merely created because of tragedy, which is an idea that casts a dark view of the character
>>151838448People here don't read the comics they complain about
>>151837200It was fun
>>151838036Hush was the best entry point to modern Batman in the 00s. A self-contained 12 issue mystery, with a single superstar artist that, story quality aside, takes you through all his friends and supporting characters and showcases all his major enemies? I think more of DC's characters could do with stories like that. Do one for Green Arrow, Nightwing, and Aquaman,
>>151837512Basic batman 101 that really only works as an introduction and carried by the art
>>151837258He insists upon himself
>>151840169That's a meme phrase from family guy that doesn't mean anything
Hush is just a worse black mask redo
>>151837200Yeah I don't like it. But it has Jim Lee art and a lot of appearances from different villains so it got to be the entry level Batman story for a while there.
>>151840996This
>>151837200He doesn't even do much
>>151837200Hush should've died in this story. Dini and other writers gave Hush way too much to do afterwards. Any Dini story with Hush is ass.
>>151839481no it wasnt
