Are comics dead? Are we just enjoying them posthumously?
>>
>>151837771
Read nigga read
>>
so weird that the frickin AVENGERS are household names, beloved characters, and part of the normie lexicon...

but NOBODY reads them. comic book characters are well known but not read. its like a monkeys paw fate
>>

Nice 8 year old screenshot you fag
>>
Does something have to be the most popular to be alive?
Like are tabletop games dead because of videogames?
Bookclubs dead because internet forums exist?
Just enjoy shit you enjoy, and let the rest figure out their shit.
Theres people out there still making Startrek fanfilms and stop motion movies. No idea of entertainment ever fully dies.
>>
>>151837797
stop being a blathering schizo and get off the internet
>>
>>151837771
1. Yes
2. Yes
This applies to all entertainment by the way. Thanks Obama.
>>

marvel almost disappeared in the 90s. it would have been bought up by somebody, stripped of its lineage and been rendered unrecognizable, much like companies of old that got bought. at this rate the entire industry could vanish and be an online thing only and pretty much just be a memory. an industry needs money to survive and keep existing. all those other things you mentioned are on their last legs and wont see another generation or shot in the arm in our lifetime
>>
>>151837790
>comic book characters are well known but not read.
nobody seems to enjoy things directly anymore, it needs to be filtered through a secondary source, like an adaption, remake, or fandom content like; fanfics, parody recaps and let play/reactions
>>
>>151837771
I mean....are you reading the comics or just collecting?
If you're reading them then you are always enjoying them....I hope
Franchises are dying but comics won't die.
It's funny too cause COMICS in general will survive over cartoon shows, movies, and even the art commissioner faggots because it's become the opinion spiggot.
"Got no money for good tools but you still wanna say something? Make 3 panels and post it".

>>151837839
Okay so when you say "comics" you really mean "two publishers, one genre, one country", great.
>>
>>151837771
Anon, they were dead before the internet was accessed through browsers. Entire generations have been enjoying them posthumously, and it still hasn’t killed them.
>>
>>151837910
"Nobody" is a stretch, but the overall point is correct. Youtube and social media have made it so that a disproportionate amount of the fan base for any given thing, comics, cartoons, anime, films, etc never actually interacted with it themselves- they just know of it vicariously through posts about it, or memes, or video reviews, but they still pretend to be fans of it. These people used to be called "secondaries" but they became so common- sometimes outnumbering the people who actually have engaged with the thing- that people don't bother to refer to them in derisive terms anymore because it's somewhat expected. 4chan isn't free of this either, look at the threads about Helluva Boss and you can tell how many anons have no intention to watch it and have only interacted with it through porn and self-insert greentext fanfiction.
>>
>>151837807
bad examples, both tabletop and book club were ruined by perverted fags invading them and making hosting any games impossible without really close friends. Comics don’t need other people to be enjoyed, so they’ll last a lot longer.

The things you brought up literally do need to be popular to be alive, in the sense that you need other ENTHUSIASTS to be able to do and enjoy them. That’s why it’s so fucking hard to enjoy them now, when all the enthusiasts keep getting chased off by horny faggots pretending to like the thing for clout.

>look at the threads about Helluva Boss and you can tell how many anons have no intention to watch it and have only interacted with it through porn and self-insert greentext fanfiction.
P. S. I only bring this one up as an example because it's very blatant. I'm not cruel enough to demand people sit down to actually watch Helluva Boss.

I think this is mainly a thing among "fandoms" that attract the extremely autistic, extremely queer, and extremely female, mostly because these people all tend to be on the spectrum and obsessed with seeking out comfort via media they consume due to a mixture of insecurity and immaturity.
You don't see this kind of shit for, say, the average Quentin Tarantino or Christopher Nolan film. You might see some mild fanfics, but most of the people who talk about these films are people who've actually seen and enjoyed them. People on the spectrum often don't have the actual attention span to sit down and watch something and pay attention to it for more than 15 minutes, and they tend to empathize far more with drawings than with actual people, so you end up with this powder keg of insane autism that takes over and destroys entire properties.
Personally, I find this fascinating because this used to be something I associated with anime and low-functioning forum autists back in the early-mid 2000s, but these days it's far more prominent among cartoon and indie game fandoms full of gays and women.

>anons have no intention to watch it and have only interacted with it through porn
Hey, that's me, but I don't go to the threads. Never watched the show and don't plan to, but jerked off to a bunch of Loona porn.

Nothing is ever really dead
>>
>>151837771
Superhero comics are pretty much dead. Dark Patterns was the best one I've read in a while, and it was just okay.
>>
>>151837771
All things are temporary, it's just some things are less temporary than others.
Just because something has outlasted a human lifetime doesn't mean it's eternal.
The societal pressures that created a certain phenomenon may cease to exist long before the phenomenon itself dies out.
>>
>>151840167
I think this way about all those articles about things that Millenials "killed".
They are all by Boomers and Gen Xers who thought the "End of History" would continue uninterrupted for eternity, that there would never again be any earth shattering changes.

There's still some good stuff coming out if you know where to look
And I mean FFS say what you want about Absolute Batman you can't deny it's popular
I'd honestly argue comics are in a better position now compared to what it was like a decade ago
>>
>>151840167
Manga is still going strong.
>>
>>151840354
So was the Roman Empire.
>>
>>151840251
pic unrelated

Honestly? 90% of the Avengers Run is very weak, they will always feel like discount Justice League. When people think Marvel teams they would mention the X-Man or even Heroes for Hire, or... I'm gonna be honest, Marvel kinda sucks at writing teams, maybe this is a effect of them being unable to believe that adult characters can have chemistry other than "Best friends, cuz the character bible says so" or "Sociopathic business partners with 25% of chance of becoming a very forced short lived romance". The most well know modern Avengers sagas are about them fighting each other over stupid bullshit after all
>>
>>151840251
A decade ago is probably the lowest point in past 25 years.
>>
>>151840251
A decade ago was DC Rebirth, didn't mind that, I kinda fell off right before Death Metal. And Marvel hasn't been good since Hickman's Secret Wars
>>
>>151841611
>A decade ago was DC Rebirth
Exactly, worst period.
>>
>>151841751
What do you mean? DC Rebirth was kino
>>
>>151842014
It was pure unfiltered garbage.
>>
>>151837790
it's because comics have atrocious writing
>>
>>151842074
It was better then this shit
>>
>>151842234
It was still shit.
>>
Honestly I have no idea why I come here. I don't read comics anymore and aside from Smiling Friends there isn't any cartoons or movies I care about. The industry is stagnate and the community is horrible. /v/ is better and more on topic than this place.
>>
>>151842354
We have some good storytimes

Comics are just the retarded LGBT cousin of manga
Once uncs die out its over
>But muh avengers
Live action and also CSM movie made 100 times its budget in profits vs avengers doing 5 times lmao
>>
>>151838102
comic stores wouldnt survive without the big two even existing
>>
>>151842390
people dont even know what that is unless they live in a third world country
>>
>>151841150
which is saying something because the avengers runs are still generally stronger than JLA pre-late 80s. And even then it's only both good and iconic from Morrison onward.
>>
>>151837771
Yes, because it's cheaper to hire a bunch of talentless hacks who want a soapbox for their politics rather than people who want to tell a story.
>>
>>151837790
Comics are hard to onboard, have inconsistent and often bad art, change our writers that often fail to ascend to mediocre, and have marketing strategies that are designed to ragebait you. Why would anyone bother reading them regularly?
>>
>>151843771
Just don't read capeshit and licenseshit
>>
>>151842316
What was the last great era then unc?
>>
>>151837838
It's true, when Obama took office, entertainment stagnated
>>
>>151841150
>They should mention X-Men
And there's the mask off, quietly ignore everything before and after that in the post
>>
I genuinely pity anyone who is still clinging desperately to reading paper comics as their main hobby. Those shits cost like $6 each now. Just profligate wastefulness.
>>
>>151843834
>don't read capeshit
There's a decent amount of capekino, but yeah, most of it should be avoided.
