Its so crazy that actual magic is a known phenomena in marvel/dc but no ordinary citizens decide to just become wizards. Like I get people's potential to use it varies but it from what we've seen anyone who dedicates themselves can do it, like it should be a course in colleges. Batman should learn magic, Spider-man should learn magic, pretty much everybody should but there are like 10 magic users in the whole world at a time.

Why don't you become a rocket scientist, or a quantum physicist, or a surgeon?

Maybe there aren’t a lot of jobs in the magic industry

I've been having trouble reconciling this in the thing I'm working in too.
The best I could come up with is magic is kind of alive and doesn't appreciate being studied or exploited in ways it doesn't approve of.

Shouldn't regular citizens at least have some magical knowledge like making bread toast itself like in Harry Potter world

Harry Potter is apparently a popular franchise in the dc universe but there's no HP fanclub that's determined to actually learn real magic

Answered your own question, anon. Most fucking can't learn magic, period. The rest are too busy policing all the others trying to learn it or jealously hoarding all magical knowledge to teach it to someone else.

You can clearly see they think it's problematic, if anything the fanclub that hasn't denounced HP would be villains

Batman tried but learned he could be a magician or he could have all his other skills like martial arts, and detecting and stuff

If we go by old, classic DC lore, the reason why everybody isn't just using magic is because magic in the DC universe is super expensive in terms of what it takes to use it. There's only three safe ways to use magic in the DC universe back in the day: Be born in a magical bloodline, own one of the few magical artifacts that are safe to use or have a sponsor, be it a god, a being of pure magic, etc. and even then you were subjected to a shitton of hidden rules and costs that could pop up during your adventures.

That was one of the big reasons why characters like John Constantine did his best to use the weakest or simplest magic possible, because anything stronger than using some trinket or the magical equivalent of a flashbang would require him to pay a cost he couldn't afford or didn't want to pay. Also the reason why most of his friends died or fucking hated him because they ended up paying the price when John fucked up or simply couldn't be bothered to find a better deal.

Also, depending on the continuity, Batman did learn SOME magic, or at least the classic Tibetan monk training meme so he can close his mind to outside magical influences and hypnosis.

Batman knows magic (of course) when the story calls for it.
Magic is just superpowers that are gate-kept by some assholes in another dimension. It's easier to build a Freeze Ray in your garage or get bit by something radioactive that won't make a ton of demands of you.

Because like any other specific skill, it requires an inordinate amount of time and dedication to get anywhere with it.

Using this analogy, say doctors for example, it’s 10-15 years of your life immediately after HS dedicated to this in order for it to become a reality. Can’t half ass it or be on the fence about it since you’re choosing to miss most of your prime pouring over medical studies and taking exams in order to pursue it.
