Will we ever get another Spider-Man movie where it's just him vs a villain? Spider-verse is a multi-verse crossover. Brand New Day is a cross-over fest. I would like to just see a simple movie about Spidey fighting Kraven. Am I in the minority, wanting this?

In the current conjuncture of things, Marvel is contractually obligated to add at the very least one (1) MCU character to every Spiderman movie they make. That's why you had RDJ, Samuel L Jackson and Benedict Cumberbatch in each of the last trilogy. And that's why you are getting Hulk and Punisher in the next movie.

the movie being good is irrelevant
it needs to be profitable

I don't know about the minority, but part of the hype of the MCU is seeing these characters interact... and we're probably coming to the close of the MCU feeling like a truly interconnected universe. I'm an oldfag in general I guess (been on 4chan since 2004) and I've had plenty of "superheroes fight their rogues gallery and that's it" movies.

If I were younger and never got to see that, I don't know. Maybe I'd want it?

I know this whole shared universe concept is old hat now, but when I was growing up, the idea of a real Avengers movie, or Spidey meeting Punisher outside of a 10 second cameo, was completely foreign.

I think >>151847428 is right that Spider-Man movies are going to be tying him into the rest of the MCU with guest star characters for as long as the deal between Sony and Disney lasts, and Disney were very effective in turning public opinion against Sony and making them look like the bad guys last time the deal was up for renewal and it was looking like Sony were walking away. If the MCU continues to decline and BND isn't popular with fans, this may change, though.

But other Spider-Man adaptations are relentlessly pushing Spider-Man as a multiverse-travelling character, or having Spider-Gwen and Miles as his sidekick characters and inevitable successors. An entire generation is going to grow up not knowing what 'normal' Spider-Man stories are like, and this is going to create an awful legacy.

does whatever a spider can
