This movie was a huge misstep for Pixar. Absolutely dreadful garbage.
>>
How so? Without any justifications and denials I shall make the true claim that you are an Indian and a tranny.

Don't.

It gave us Colette so it's a good movie

One of the worst Pixar movies. Pinkava wrote a dull story with boring characters and an unappealing premise. Bird was brought late in development so he could salvage it, but he was unable to. Lasseter was too busy taking over WDAS and trying to save Meet the Robinsons, so he was unable to do much for Ratatouille either. This was made right during Disney's adquisition of Pixar, so development was a bit of a mess. It shows, cause there's a lack of polish to the writing, pacing and characterization here that you didn't find in other Pixar films at the time.

You prefer The Good Dinosaur? Cars? The fifth sequel of Toy Story?

Ratatouille isn't even close to being one of the worst Pixar films.
>>
>>151872413
The Good Dinosaur was good.
>>
>>151870368
I stand with you, this movie was total shit.
>>
>>151870368
I never got the Pixar hype. The comparisons with Ghibli exist to prove that the Oscars have bad taste and also to elevate the pitiful content of Pixar films to an artistic level. In the end, they make a product. A very entertaining one. But it's like watching something from a third-rate Hollywood director (Ron Howard) instead of the original (Spielberg). Pixar would be better with smaller budgets and riskier premises. I think the D+ content farm ended up giving the studio more leeway to break out of that stilted format that was occasionally broken up by a Brad Bird project.
>>
>>151872413
The Good Dinosaur actually has a moral lesson to tell, the point of Ratatouille is "gluttony is good".
>>
>>151873363
Totally agreed except for the Brad Bird part. His only good film at the company was first The Incredibles, and even with that in mind, it wasn't his best movie, that was The Iron Giant for Warner.

Shrek the Third made more cash than Ratatouille back in 2007. Not surprising, since it's a more entertaining film (especially in some dubs).
>>
>>151873369

Lies and deceptions! A hot woman didn't get Architect-tier fat in that movie, so gluttony wasn't good!

The point of Ratatouille is that "anyone can cook". Ratatouille is only great due to the Ego segment and narration at the end.

>>
>>151874531
Why does the ending have the guy giving up on his dream of being a cook to serve tables for a rat born gifted?
>>
>>151875184
Linguine never wanted to be a chef, he just wanted a steady job to make ends meet and inadvertently became a chef after accidentally taking credit for Remi's cooking. Nigger you should watch the movie instead of criticizing it based on clips you saw on youtube.
>>
>Iron Giant : Main character is a child
>Incredibles : Most characters are adults, but there's still Dash, Violet and Jack Jack, plus some young minor characters like Kari
>Ratatouille : Every single character is an adult. Not a single child to be found
Bird officially lost his heart here. No Pixar movie shouldn't have kids in it
>>
Ratatouille is a hard movie to like. It's got too much of a high opinion of itself, yet it's a heavily flawed movie. This is why humble writing is important in animation. Audiences embrace and connect more with humble films. They don't like that feel of pretentiousness while at the cinema.
>>
>>151875408
>No Pixar movie shouldn't have kids in it
Except A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo (no some fucking background characters don't count), Cars, or Wall-E?
>inb4 those movies all suck!
Oh and Turning Red, Luca, the Good Dinosaur, Toy Story 4, and Brave are good movies all of a sudden?
>>
>>151875453
You just described Wall-E
>>
>>151875408
There's no pivotal kid characters in Wall-E and that's in their top 3 easily.

>>151870368
Ratatouille is easily a top 5 Pixar movie. Probably #3 after Toy Story and The Incredibles.
>>
>>151875507
Wall-E was great. Unlike Ratatouille. Don't try to be a contrarian so hard.
>>
I'd be willing to bet that 90% of this thread is one person samefag spamming. Exact same opinion and writing style.
Thanks hiro for getting rid of the IP counter!
>>
Looking back, Meet the Robinsons was the best CG film of 2007. Unlike Ratatouille, it manages to leave a good message while also being entertaining, creative and humble ( Ratatouille is dull, unimaginative and has its head far up its ass )

>>
>>151875768
Wall-E is unironic oscar bait and goes down immensely in quality the moment the narrative shifts to Humanity's bullshit. Should have just played it straight with the Robot Romance.
>>
>>151870368
only in terms of the art style. everything else was tremendous

well, except the inevitable issue with any of this kind of movie where 'actually animals are sentient, but nobody is aware of it despite centuries of carefully studying them for signs, and no explanation or excuse as to why we think it's okay to just trap and kill them'
I don't think there is a solution to that. we just want talking animals in movies and that doesn't make any fucking sense, so..
>>
>>151875849
>Wall-E is unironic oscar bait
And Ratatouille wasn't?
>>
Ratatouille ain't 96% good. Just RT blowing things out of proportion again.
>>
Even Bird seems to acknowledge that he sorta missed the mark with Ratatouille, since he hasn't directed more original animation films since. Even if you like the film, it's hard to deny that it's easily Bird's weakest animation screenplay. It's not nearly as tight or well written as Iron Giant and Incredibles' screenplays. Lots of awkward interactions and not particularly funny jokes.
>>
>>151875494
Nemo and Dot are kids
>>
>>151870368
Agreed. The movie itself is boring as fuck. The idea of making food tasting an orgasmic sensation is cringy. The rat is annoying as fuck. The lanky loser is an outright scumbag that goes gaga with the slightest taste of money. The romance between him and the tsundere tomboy is terribly unrealistic. The Jafar midget is just a moustsche twirling baddie with the character depth of a piss stain. The only thing good was the soundtrack, very relaxing although maybe too much stereotipically french.
>>
>>151875849
We're not talking about Up, anon.
>>
>>151876310
Based, Up is only praised because of it's first five minutes.
>>
>>151876310
>>151876316
Honestly, it really bothered me that in that time people were praising Up to the extreme, saying it was the new Pixar masterpiece, that "Pixar did it again", and all that tiresome shit, while diminishing Ice Age 3 for being "just a silly comedy and nothing more". Another proof that the influence of Pixar movies in the CGI sphere was an awful disaster for the perception of animation.

I might actually prefer The Good Dinosaur to Ratatouille. It's boring but at least it looked good, and it made me feel like I was watching something of mild importance. Ratatouille is nothingness made manifest.
>>
>>151874843
Its message is stupid and the entire plot exists solely to disprove it. The amount of contrivances required for this to make even a shred of sense is astonishing, like the food critic ignoring his life's work and just coincidentally having been served that specific meal, in that exact way, possibly with the exact ingredients to creat the same experience, I mean jesus fucking christ.
>>
>>151877532
Because no movie has ever used coincidence before and coincidences don't happen in real life. Garbage critique for a kids fantasy film.
>>
>>151877637
Eventually the contrivances pile up to the point where there's no plot. It's just random nonsense happening. Pixar and Disney were never this retarded since the renaissance.

Oh fuck off with this criticism. The ratatouille wasn't the key meal. Remi could have literally picked any meal so long as it was a common folk dish Ego had in his youth of which there are hundreds. Ego had his flashback because it was a meal that tasted like his mom used to make, with honest to god effort and care. That's what caused Ego to be overcome with nostalgia, not the fact it was ratatouille, but because it tasted how he remembered it tasting as a kid. If it was just the fact it was ratatouille he'd have had his flashback the moment he saw the dish.
