What was /co/ like when the first LoK episode first came out?
Belly
>>151872554Why don't you look at the archives first, faggot? Merry Christmas, Christ Jesus loves me and you would be dead in a natural, just society
People were hopeful and excited, the first two episodes were leaked in advanced 4chan was only just starting to die so I remember at least one guy asking why everything's so "chinky" and another guy whining about starting AtLA for the first time and that there's no whites
>>151872824/co/ got an archive only that year so there's a chance half of it isn't even up
>>151872554We all agreed this was white genocide and targeted hatred against men.
>>151872562Belly.
>>151872554I still don't know what we were supposed to deal with.
>>151873004That she'll suck absolute ass at her job and at about everything save for bending.
>>151873186Her proper destiny to be a submissive lesbian pet for Asami.
>>151872554Korra isn't so bad when you realize she's just Sokka in a wig.
When DID we really start to turn on LOK?I know most of the board was really fucking mad with the Book 1 Finale, when she just got handed literally everything. But I remember a lot of us getting mad at the show, and at her, a lot earlier. A lot of it was when she inexplicably took Pema's advice and played homewrecker to Mako and Asami's relationship. Or even earlier when she stabbed Bolin in the back. Also as I recall we all got tired of probending pretty quick.
>>151873532Korra isn't exactly charismatic, she's got a funny scene or two per season but the writers failed to make her the funny kind of brat. Can't speak for everyone but I didn't immediately recoil at the idea of 1920s Avatar. However after the probending shit I realized this was not going to be good and the end sealed the deal. The love triangle, fake sport, annoying characters, and the horrid asspull ending, there's plenty to hate in S1.
>>151872554>>151873532People were really hyped after the first couple of episodes and sentiment steadily degraded over the course of the season until the finale which really was the cherry on topPeople really didn't like the focus on pro-bending and the love triangle
>>151872554I was on 4chan in 2012 but I didn't go on /co/ when this was airing. I really wish I did.
>>151875048The pure unbridled RAGE during season 2 must have been incredible
>>151873532During season 1 because the plot was meandering but the main cast dynamic wasn't good enough to compensate for it.
>>151872554"Guys, just give it a chance! It's gonna get better!">Narrator: it wasn't gonna get betterand that's not me making fun of anyone, I'm quoting myself. I actually defended the show clean through the fourth season, until that LAST moment when all the joy from Varrick and Zhu Li was destroyed in a moment of woke garbage that ended up snowballing into -every western show-
>>151872554I remember it being like 30/70 wanting to blow raspberries on her belly (in bed), and getting mad that a kid just knows 3/4 bending elements because ??? for no reason at all.
>>151875029The big cope on book 1 was that Bryke are just idea guys who need writers to help them make it work. /co/ didn't fully turn on Korra until she lost her past lives in book 2.
>>151878188>/co/ didn't fully turn on Korra until she lost her past lives in book 2.Yeah this was the real "Fuck this bitch" moment. Aang being able to talk to and employ his past lives was one of the most enjoyable aspects of ATLA, for Korra to come along and just fucking wreck it, cheaply, turned everyone against her who wasn't already.I don't know what Bryke were thinking, killing all the past lives.
>>151873532Book 2, for the millionth time.
I don’t know but I kinda hated her from the start cause she was extremely rude to Tenzin
>>151872554This >>151872903. I had forgotten the first several episodes were leaked. It generally felt like it was going to be really good.
I didn't watch Season 1 with /co/ but for the later seasons I remember the live reaction threads were always way more positive than the discussion threads after
I still think it was the worst spamming of the board I'd seen (worse than Pony). It was like the Smiling Friends stuff now or Homestuck at its worst, where people would just make a dozen threads about anything, and it just flooded the board. This was back when the board had more regular traffic as well, and so it was probably worse in real numbers vs. a lot of more modern versions of it.It was really obnoxious.
>>151878582>popular new thing gets tons of threads made about it>"wtf what's with all this spamming?!"You would not have survived /a/ in the days of Mai-Hime, Code Geass, and Gurren Lagann.
>>151878609Those were also bad times, yes.
>>151878582First season of Korra was before 4chan had catalogs. There were some that existed but they were off-site third party thngs like the archives. So spam was very common
>>151878188The real cope that's probably closer to the truth is that they had no real plan. With AtLA, they had a set skeleton for the series but with tidbits that weren't fully developed until after the show started. They knew they were gonna add a new member to the gang and they were gonna be a bold brash jock earthbender that makes fun of Sokka, but him being a blind girl was realized laterWith Korra, they went in thinking it was a short series, then a full season, then multiple seasons than not really then yes really
