Does anyone else realize how absurd the concept of Rudolph really is?

Like how the fuck did someone come up with a reindeer's nose glowing?

actually what confuses me more is that santa is always manufacturing electronics (maybe not iphones, but probably 1st gen video games at around the time the movie came out), but somehow bioluminescence is more reliable and more effective than a simple 100 watt incandescent powered by a sleigh-mounted battery pack.

the only explanation is that santa was being deliberately stupid to give rudolph a job out of pity, or he has a reason to avoid electronic components for his mission (like stealth or extreme cold).

Looking at the thumbnail I thought it was a running fat guy with exposed belly ripping a giant red fart cloud

>he has a reason to avoid electronic components for his mission
EM frequencies probably mess with his magic

It's Christmas magic dude.

Rudolph was made before those were normal. Which begs the question why it a red nose was chosen when I am pretty sure having red facial features was a symbol for being drunk.

It was actually a joke Christmas song but kids thought it was neat so they played it straight in the special and made history.

>Bro, how does a cartoon do unrealistic things!?

Prior to 1909, there was no law against buying or using opium in the US. Cocaine and heroin were legal prior to 1914. Peyote didn't get banned until the 1930's. Shrooms weren't banned until 1970, along with LSD, but LSD didn't get made until 1938 and wasn't really used until much later so I'm not gonna bother counting LSD.
Writers were well known for alcohol and drug consumption, and still are to this day. Prior to 1909, they could easily be on any number of drugs without concern.

Rudolph is from 1939

God damnit I can see it now too

>Robert L. May created Rudolph in 1939 as an assignment for Chicago-based Montgomery Ward. The retailer had been buying and giving away booklets for Christmas every year and it was decided that creating their own book would save money. May considered naming the reindeer Rollo or Reginald before deciding upon using the name Rudolph.[11] May chose a reindeer because of his daughter's love of the deer at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, IL.[12] May also said he was treated like Rudolph as a child.[13] In its first year of publication, Montgomery Ward distributed 2.4 million copies of Rudolph's story.[14] The story is written as a poem in anapestic tetrameter, the same meter as "A Visit from St. Nicholas" (also known as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas").[15] Publication and reprint rights for the book Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer are controlled by Pearson PLC.[citation needed]

>While May was staring out his office window in downtown Chicago, pondering how best to craft a Christmas story about a reindeer, a thick fog from Lake Michigan blocked his view—giving him a flash of inspiration. "Suddenly I had it!" he recalled. "A nose! A bright red nose that would shine through fog like a spotlight."[16]

>The cultural significance of a red nose has changed since the story's publication. In 1930's popular culture, a bright red nose was closely associated with chronic alcoholism and drunkards, so the story idea was initially rejected. May asked his illustrator friend at Montgomery Ward, Denver Gillen, to draw "cute reindeer", using zoo deer as models. The alert, bouncy character Gillen developed convinced management to support the idea.[17]

It’s a story jews tell about themselves, superseding classical Christmas tales with a bright light that can solve everything despite never being let in their reindeer games (guilds).

It's more "Who the hell thinks of this stuff" than complaining about cartoons being unrealistic

Yes Rudolph, give me your mutant babies!!

>Man needs an idea for a reindeer
>Sees fog
>Gets a spontaneous and specific idea of a reindeer with a glowing nose.
Doubt

>Doubt
...why?
the nose is the most logical point for a light. it's the most forward part of the animal

Does anyone know what animation program they used?

I like how the Santa hat is directly on his nose

Frosty (a living snowman) and The Grinch (mass burglary goes unnoticed) are equally absurd.
>>
>>151876011
It's not bioluminiscence, it's the magic of an Aurora Borealis goddess that selected Rudolph to be the heir to her power.

Actually the EM signature makes it too easy for him to get shot down in certain airspaces.

>make the main character a deer because his daughter liked deer
>make him a bully victim drawn from personal experience
>"What reason could a deer ever be bullied for?"
