>Say, Dad, can I ask you a question?
>Sure, boy.
>The town keeps getting bigger. Will there always be enough electricity?
>Oh son, you know that's none of your business.

>I'm afraid not, son. For largely political reasons, most states will continue to generate between 60-80% of their electricity by burning coal and natural gas, with a handful pursuing expanded solar power, despite ever-increasing concerns about the effect on the environment. Groups like the WWF, EDF, and other environmental lobbies accept billions of dollars from fossil fuel companies to oppose nuclear energy, so it'll be another 22 years before a new nuclear power station finally breaks ground in the United States.
>>What about fusion, dad?

France uses like 75% nuclear energy while in Germany it's banned because hippies have a huge amount of political influence there.

ironically we'd be way better off if our governor would build some fission plants and desalination machines. people hate actual solutions though.

Nuclear energy development is really a huge necessity for power worldwide. They are extremely efficient and actually amazingly clean. Most renewables are garbage and completely inefficient. Geothermal and Hydroelectric are the outlier but both require specific environmental variables to be built and Hydro electric dams cause are huge environmental damages to the local ecosystem. Fossil Fuels have their downsides but are far more efficient than renewables and have the infrastructure already built. Ultimately society needs to move to Nuclear while still using Fossil fuels as a stop gap with areas that can utilize geothermal building plants there.

Oh, and we stopped new wind turbines for NATIONAL SECURITY.

What? Do they alter our brain waves?
>>
>>151882122

What's wrong with Solar? The sun isn't going anywhere, lol.
>>
>>151882207
Have you figured out how to make solar efficient? Because the top minds in energy science haven't. If you have, why haven't you told anyone?
>>
>>151882182
Their failure to generate enough power relative to the needs we have or any power at all when wind no blow is indeed a national security issue. But gas and coal companies love them because it forces us to keep them around just in case and it gives them eco-cred while they continue to sell us the product they're claiming they're replacing, so they get to double-dip.

So we're basically abandoning technological fields, with global demand, to a dangerous enemy.

I see China continuing to get stronger at OUR expense.

>I see China continuing to get stronger at OUR expense.
You squandered your empire and it's China's fault? Intriguing. What else do you not accept blame for in your life?

I am 100% for nuclear power because it works and it doesn't suddenly decide to stop working because
>AYYYYYYIIIIIEEEE IS THAT A CLOOOUD SAVE ME ELOOON
Solar and wind are OK but not reliable in the long term without a core power source. Unfortunately, that core power source is gonna be lobbyist-backed gas and oil because for the average US politician, blowing a corporation for kickbacks is more important than actually doing their alleged jobs.

>It's forty years away.
It isn't. It's closer than that. The Bongs broke a major part of it about three years ago. So it has really cut the time. France has been saying forty years for forty years. I would say by 2050. That, of course, depends on the various powers that be not killing it, which I suspect they will.
>>
>>151882343
Imagine believing China is making anything efficient. They're just making cheap shit because Solar panels create a shit ton of pollutants that China just poors in its backyard.

As opposed to you alienating your neighbors, botching COVID-19, botching the housing market leading to a crash, your repeat military annexations of one island after another, you killing off your own tech sector, your botched one-china policy screwing up your population ratio, your prioritizing exports over domestic consumption constantly, your total inability to take any kind of foreign criticism without threatening some form of violent escalation, etc?

America's biggest mistake has been turning into YOU: a strongman autocracy surrounded by sycophants and a personality cult, forever doomed to argue about "what plans are aligned with muh strongman leader thought".

You must blind, China, not to see how much America has turned into you.

Question for the more nuclear hyper-fixated anons itt. If the entire planet just magically fully embraced nuclear energy for 100% of all electricity, how long could we keep it up before we ran out of usable Uranium, Plutonium and Thorium?
