I see her as an anti-heroine. While she IS a vampire, she has a ton of anti-vampire sentiment within her from a lifetime of being wronged by them.

Being turned into a vampire herself just drives home that point even more. Bad enough they almost killed her daughter and forced her to kill her own vampire sister.
