A lot of people are going to be talking about this and the sentiments for the most part I agree with and really don't have much to add... except for one particular bit that I feel not just this community but every community needs to avoid in events like this. No TL;DR for this because there's no summarizing this, you just gotta read the words."Well it's not DA's fault, it's the..." The fault is on nobody BUT the children that chose to harass an animator for being involved in animation people didn't like. There is this annoying trend with any situation like this in whether it's a figure stepping away from a project or just hearing that they're struggling after harassment for people to try and pass the buck, to suggest that basically the wrong target was chosen and even if that's not what you intend? As a reminder, we in life don't operate off intention. Intention only matters when it's something ultimately small potatoes like say yelling out to try and overpower loud music and then having that misconstrued as you being angry so you have to quickly explain yourself. We also have a little thing called reading the room. This is not doing that, you are sincerely not helping. If this is what you consider good? Frankly you'd be a bigger help being silent in this specific instance.

To pin the blame specifically like this feels insanely disingenuous not just because it's using a situation to attack basically an opinion but also it fails to really tackle the heart of the issue. I get where the emotion is and at least here there's nothing about this that's just passing the blame to people who worked on the episode nor is it trying to argue this is somehow not bad but still, it does not help.Also while we're at it, let's get ahead of the curve and say that we should not be calling this "drama" or a "controversy". Neither of those words with their proper description fit this.
Let's call it what it is. This is what happens when people let toxicity fester, when people get way too comfortable with just being the absolute WORST person to somebody over entertainment. There is nothing wrong with criticizing episodes that DA has made WHEN it's criticism. When it's simply you expressing your opinion over the work and just leaving it there. Not to sound like a "Back in my day" type of boomer but... back in my day, I was taught a very simple lesson about criticism. The moment you veer into attacking and shaming the people behind this work? You have voided the criticism and lose your seat at the discourse table. The point of criticism is to focus on the art and the results of it. You can be incredibly harsh and brutal if you so choose but with that comes tact, comes a great deal of skill. To be brutally honest isn't to just scream that something sucks, it's to just be direct with your thoughts. Case in point, saying an episode sucks is brutal honesty. To pin all the blame on the animator is just cruelty.
I actually thought the animation for Kratos vs. Asura was good. I know a lot of people had problems with it, but I thought it was great.Even if you disagree about Asura losing, given the power gap between the two it makes sense for Kratos to take little damage. It also put Kratos in some kind of a mentor or elder role to Asura, and let Kratos show how far he had come by defeating someone who had been down the same path as him. He wasn't just fighting Asura, he was TEACHING Asura. And I think that's very heartwarming in a way. That Kratos would take the lessons he learned and help someone who was just like him.If this weren't a Death Battle I'm sure they would have ended cordially and taught each other well. The alternate ending is weird, even if heartwarming in its own way. It was nice to see Kratos reunite with his daughter, but it feels weird to have him just stand there and take that punch.I haven't played Asura's game though (but after watching this fight I think I might watch a playthrough!) so I might be missing stuff but as a big GoW fan I thought they did Kratos justice and from what I saw they treated Asura with the utmost respect. What character has ever gotten an alternate ending made just for them?

It would be a dream, nay an absolute obligation for everybody who's gonna drop their rankings of these episodes on YouTube to just open it or the section on Kratos vs. Asura with a vicious takedown of this rhetoric, devoid of humor and filled with all the spite possible because that is what is deserved. To me, when you consider attacking an animator to be okay and see nothing wrong with it? You don't deserve to be in the community, you are immediately unwelcome because these actions go against the VERY NATURE of community and fitting for the holiday it currently is, it also takes the biggest shit on any sort of good will. Toxicity is not something you try to placate to prevent, toxicity is something you actively have to fight and be against, you have to be the ones to shout loudly and with force that this shit is not welcome, that if you attack an animator or any member of the staff over an episode you don't like? The only response you deserve is someone pointing to the door and forcing you out. To quote James Stephanie Sterling...Once your criticism enters the realm of harassment, you lose any right to expect a decent discussion or, indeed, anything other than scorn.
