While a bit of a fuckboy, he seems to care about people around him from the small clips we see of him in the season. Fionna is still more at fault than anything and she's been the primary one seeking a sexual and romantic relationship with him. If the writers actually hated him because "all women are queens", they would've leaned into him being a manipulator and Fionna being some victim to his advances rather than Fionna being the fuckup and pursuing his affection despite him being taken.
