Is there a way to breathe life into the American comics industry? It's not like the talent or the stories aren't there. Maybe by doing away with the rotting corpse franchises, not necessarily getting rid of entire genres like superheroes, just curbing them a bit.
I've been reading recent comics of all types, and the only ones that have really held my interest are European and Japanese. Shit is still as good as ever over there, so it's not that everything is stagnating. That's bullshit. As for the US, you have non-Big Two comics that are close to being compelling, but someone needs to seriously light a fire under their asses and get them in gear. The art needs to be in top form and find good writing, and vice versa. Big Two comics are too busy trying to keep their zombie franchises alive with gimmicks. It could be that the audience just isn't here, and isn't gonna be here. You aren't here. Chances are, if you're reading this, you only care about maintaining your nerd cred by keeping up with the latest superhero shenanigans, or you're as crazy as I am. Only the retarded and mentally ill would remain in a place like this. In a way, this board is a good representation of what the industry is facing. There's no motivation to try to be good if there's no real sane human audience. They've given up and let the crazies run amok. Fuck that.
You you gave everyone who might be inclined to buy comicbooks about a 500% pay increase then that would probably work. But you'd have to tax billionaires for that.
>>151893641>bro just ditch what sales for sure on the off chance something that new will totally work this time
>>151893641Someone would have to give a fuck enough to warrant change. I don't keep up with "the industry" but what I generally hear is that people are fine to just keep doing the same old thing.
>>151893641You have to take creative control away from suits and bean counters.
No it's over
>>151893641>It's not like the talent or the stories aren't there.Lol
>>151893641>It's not like the talent or the stories aren't there.kek I think that's the number one problem
>>151893641>Is there a way to breathe life into the American comics industry?Who cares?
>>151894523This. So much fucking this. There's so much good stuff these days. Games, anime, webnovels, webcomics, ...why the fuck give a shit about a company that hasn't written a good story in 30 years?
>>151893761Look at Invincible, it brought all kinds of new people and sales but did the same stuff that destroyed the industry to begin with.Kirkman didn’t want to make good comics, he just wanted to make comics he had absolute control over.
Comics have been selling better this year than in the last decade. The problem is what exactly?
