Would you say RWBY failed? It had like 9 seasons and was active for over a decade. Apparently a 10th is confirmed too.
I'm not saying the show is good, frankly it went straight to shit after Volume 3, 4 at best, but commercially it seems like overall it was a relative success?

I disagree. The show appealed to the weeb fanbase. Female action/fantasy characters are common in anime. The yuri part was also not something the series initially had, it only became an actual part of the show much later.
