Why the fuck is netflix removing their own cartoons now? Is this a royalty thing or something?
They had a contract for how long it would stay on NetflixIt is expiring. They are not renewing its streaming contract because it is not getting numbers worth doing so and are about to get a lot of animation content from WB to put on and focus on instead
>>151909007So who is going to air this show now, peacock?>and are about to get a lot of animation content from WB to put on and focus on insteadIs that still happening btw? I havent been on this site in about a month
>>151908990Does no one know how to pirate anymore?
>>151909018>So who is going to air this show nowWhoever signs a contract to stream it, if anyone does at all>Is that still happeningYes, Paramount head is getting pissy trying a hostile takeover but that likely will not work. It needs regulatory approval so not looking until late 2026 to 2027 for it to be approved
>>151909057Id rather netflix get WB then paramount since the new guy in charge of paramount sounds like a fucking nut even if in a perfect world id want neither to get warner bros
>>151909068Concur. I think Netflix would be more benevolent (comparatively) overlords, lol.
>>151909042There's no Nyaa equivalent for cartoons. Where the fuck am I supposed to pirate these shows?
>>151909057Trump and Daddy Ellison gonna continue thumbing the scales for Paramount it will probably take an extra year
>>151909042Piracy is illegal you know.
>>151908990This has been a quiet happening across the industry.Once a show has been out and done long enough, if it doesn't have worthwhile numbers it will be shelved indefinitely and not available anywhere legally. The reason this happens is either licensing fees like in She-Ra's case or because in a subscriber based system where team members and VA still get royalties per view it is possible for a show to be deemed a net negative if the company thinks that nobody is subscribing to the service for said show but are still watching it occasionally.
>>151908990It was a 'Netflix original', but it was actually made by DreamWorks Animation Television. Netflix just had an exclusivity period for the show. That's soon coming to an end, so it's presumably up to the content's owners to negotiate rights for where to host it next.>>151909018Since DreamWorks Animation Television is owned by Universal Pictures, it'll likely end up on Peacock. But nothing is certain yet.
>>151909294Have you tried 1337x.to?
>>151908990>Cartoon appeals to adults who don’t buy toys or DVDs Nigga Mattel probably gonna make she-ra straight again if it will help them sell dolls to little girls.
>>151909684Unlike Tim Drake and Iceman. I can actually picture them making She-Ra straight again. Especially after how poorly Stranger Things handled the coming out of the closet storyline in the finale is being made fun of by the mainstream audiences even gay groups on Facebook posting gayer things memes.
>>151909308Trump outright said he doesn’t give a shit about Netflix buying WB. He only cares if something he likes such Rush Hour 4 being made.
Does Mattel not want it associated with their brand or something? They never seem to use it in crossovers or cameos even though they reference like every other MOTU related cartoon in comics and stuff.
>>151909438The solution to that is making better shows. She-Ra had some interesting ideas, a little fap bait, and maybe two or three genuinely outstanding episodes… but that’s not enough to keep people watching and rewatching a show in the long term.
>>151909803>Does Mattel not want it associated with their brand or something?Probably, it didn't have a sane fanbase and it didn't make any money. Those barbie figures hit clearance within 2 months and none of their small figures sold, meanwhile the revive figures of She-Ra at least got some traction. And obviously it never did even halfway decent numbers on Netflix, by the time we got actual numbers it was in the high thousands of rankings and even when it premiered it never once cracked the top 20 they listed. Mind you this was a time when Mystery Inc was still somehow in the top 10 half a decade after it stopped airing. Face it, they tried something new and now are deathly afraid it'll end up being the "Face" of the IP and pull down any future attempts to actually make money.
>>151909018Roku channel is currently airing season 1 of the original, along with what looks like all of original He-man. (and a bunch of other random vintage 80's toons)
>>151908990Who cares? Only braindead lesbians care about this
>>151910349>Mystery IncI mean, it's the best Scooby-Doo animated series.
Maybe we should reform copyright law so that something automatically enters the public domain if the rights holders keep it withdrawn from legal distribution for long enough.
>>151908990Honestly, I don't remember anything about this series. I only remember the first season and that the ending was awful; everything else was filler.Let's be honest, the new owners are probably going to shelve this series as a way to cut revenue since they can't generate any income, given that Mattel owns the She-Ra toys.
Piracy is evil btw
>>151910769>the new owners are probably going to shelve this series as a way to cut revenueDid you mean cut expenses? Also, I never watched the series, what was bad about the ending?
>>151909684Anon, Mattel let them make a Barbie movie about how everything that made Barbie an evergreen toy was wrong and even allowed themselves to me made into the villains.
>>151910796>Did you mean cut expenses?Yes, damn autocorrect.>what was bad about the ending? They defeat the villain with the power of love and friendship and forgive Catra (she admitted from the first episode that she was on the side of the bad guys and doesn't care; she committed several war crimes, almost destroyed existence, is responsible for the death of one of the protagonists' mothers, and for five seasons she set out to make Adora's life a living hell). It's an insult that Catra and Adora kiss at the end! That bitch sold the most destructive weapon in the universe to the final villain just to save her own skin!
>>151910883Is it true that the show's creator was in a really toxic relationship? That would explain a lot if so.
>>151910872The movie was pure comedy that didn't take anything it said seriously. For example:>Ken starts selling more toys than Barbie.>mattel: No, we have to bring Barbie back. I didn't become an executive to make money; I did it to bring fun to little girls.
>>151910911Yes.Then she became a man.
>>151908990shitty ass reboot anyways good riddance with this tranny fucking she-ra.
>>151909907Dude. Even successful shows get cancelled after 1 season in Netflix. Because of hoe they operate, it's more profitable to shelve a successful show instead of continuing it. Either to not pay royalties or some other more nefarious reason.
>>151911028>Dude. Even successful shows get cancelled after 1 season in Netflix.Uhh, not really.Netflix usually gives shows at least 2 seasons, for awhile they would greenlight basically everything. One of the few times they didn't was with Dark Crystals, which I imagine was related to some of the fire damage the sets suffered that Netflix didn't feel like repairing.
>>151908990>using Netflix That's your problem.
>>151911111>quintsDamn he's right
>>151909803>>151910349The problem is that Mattel lends its IPs instead of directly; take a look at the Barbie movie, it was a success for WB, women bought a ton of the movie's licensed merchandise, but it didn't make families buy Barbie toys.
>>151909803She-Ra is weird. Mattel doesn't own the right to make an animated adaptation of She-Ra since DreamWorks owns the rights to making She-Ra adaptations and DreamWorks can't make toys without Mattel's involvement. That's why the baby Hordak kidnaps in Revolutions never gets named or revealed despite obviously being Adora. There's also the fact that the She-Ra fanbase doesn't interact with the larger MOTU fanbase and Mattel had no idea or interest in how to appeal to them.>>151910349Those dolls were trash. Overpriced and sold only in select Targets. The only good ones were Catra and Swiftwind. Super7 made Catra and She-Ra figurines that were more show accurate and despite selling out, Mattel still told them "No" when they asked to make more figurines.
>>151910701You reminded me of the Stop Killing Games initiative and that neither Ross or the Libertarians thought about that when writing/debating the proposal.
>>151911103I was thinking more of shows like The OA or I Am Not Okay With This that were cancelled despite positive reception.
>>151908990Dumb licensing bullshit with DreamWorks. Basically: after around six years after the final batch of episodes, the show is removed from the platform.
>>151908990>She-Ra and Noelle's Hatred of Breasts
>>151911750You can tell which shows made an impact because this has happened to like 10 of their shows already but only a small handful of them have caused a fuss.
>>151908990They are getting WB and their catalog thus no longer need them.
>>151909376Qiqes are illegal, too.
>>151911111>stop blaming billionaire Netflix, blame the consumer!kys, bootlicker
>>151909701What smoke ed on stranger things?
>>151909803Mattel hated Dyke-Ra but could not block it as Dyke-ra only existed because they only control the animated rights to He-Man not She-Ra. It's why most He-Man adaptations omit She-Ra and don't use the cartoon lore for the Horde/omit Catra and Scorpia from the team. All they could do was embargo it from getting merchandise and pressure Dreamworks into to letting them continue to make toys based off the original She-Ra toys and cartoon via holding their control over He-Man proper over their heads.
You know, I've always wondered why Mattel doesn't just create a series with their own version of She-Ra.For example, instead of using the name "Adora," you could use "Eve," and instead of "She-Ra," you could use "Ishtar."Just change the names, remove everything that mentions She-Ra, and you'll avoid legal problems.
>>151912901>Mattel hated Dyke-RaStill do.
