He took a passive/introverted but also a reasonable approach by not directly antagonizing TJ to his face or making his life worse like Randall does, he just avoided him to prevent any pointless bad blood(note that TJ even know about being disliked up until that point, and only because his friends told him), and even planned to invite him to the birthday party out of courtesy along with everyone else even though he didn't truly want to.
