Why did cartoons seasons go from 20-40 episodes per year to 8-10 episodes every 3 years?
Money
>>151926022Line must go up forever
>>151926022Increased production costs and decreased demand and returns.Cartoons never made networks money and they were happy to be rid of them.
>>151926022Shows have in general been following this trend
>>151926022They used to hire 12 writers with a decade of experience and keep them on to ensure the show flows right and the gags land, and now they only hire 3 writers from upwork and fire them before the show even starts production
I dunnoFeminism I guess?
>>151926366>12 writersI'll never understand why some kid cartoon need that many writers, it is too hard to come up with multiple simple plots for kids?
>>151926022stop asking questions chudjust respect animators and give them more money
>>151926022LESS WRITERS!
>>151926535If it takes one mother nine months to make a baby, you can just hire nine mothers to make a baby in one month.
>>151926022Gluttony
>>151926535If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Writer's rooms worked. They were expensive but made multi-billion dollar IPs. Mini rooms don't work, you save some money up front but more often than not they make a show that's completely worthless.
>>151926022Everyone wanted bigger slices of the pie, but the pie isn't getting bigger
>>151926535It’s too fast Group work compensated for schedulingQuality writing takes more people or more time no one wants to pay forWhy spec buys increased good writing has value but the system stripped it out to cut labor costs
>>151926090Came here to say this
>>151926982The old system was 12 writers writing a season in 22 weeks. Now it's 3 writers writing a season in 8 weeks. They just cut every corner.
>>151927110Exactly. Every time scale down cut the corner. Make the numbers smaller. Just cut them in half and pay half as much. It doesn’t work like that. Cut the last corner. Nothing left and it can’t be done.
Enshittification is what happens when you legally are required to appease shareholders instead of ensuring quality of the product.
>>151927110>>151927249And yet somehow it still takes 3 years to make a single season. Is the bottleneck the animators?
>>151927315how long would it take you to make 15,000 drawings and color them in
>>151927493Well it used to take them a lot less time to do that, hence the entire premise of the thread.
>>151927493Well they used to have a handful of employees doing that too but then they fired them all and dumped all of the work on the storyboard artists with no bump in pay, and they're paid by the episode instead of hourly like writers
>>151927591Yes when more money time and people spent on it like we just said
>>151926047How could that issue be resolved
>>151926084>Cartoons never made networks money and they were happy to be rid of them.they made a fuck ton of money through merch.
