Cyclops is one of the most popular X-Men to exist and is often considered the de-facto leader of the X-Men as well as being a main character in ever X-Men film and intrinsically tied to both of their most infamous storylines (Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse) of course they would use him. Hes THE X-Man since Wolverine was both not originally an X-Man and also has his own solo adventures. If they hadn't already used him for Deadpool & Wolverine then I'm sure they would've went with Logan.

That's like trying to take credit for Superman being in the Justice League. It would be different if it was a more obscure character that didn't really get a lot of attention, even someone like Angel or Jubilee that doesn't really get a lot of feature anymore, but CYCLOPS? I was under the impression Cyclops is more 'hated as a fucking terrible character' rather than anything.

Cyclops was barely in the original. It was 97 that brought the character out of complete obscurity.

X-Men '97 is unironically the most overrated show of the last decade. It has plenty of aspects that could have been good, but the pacing is so utterly terrible that those good aspects only make the way it turned out more disappointing. It should have been a lot better than it was, and it's baffling that it doesn't get a lot more criticism.
