>El Guapo vs The Narco Vampires comes out
>No thread
Cringe!

pretty good.
Had to stop myself 1/4 of the way through the pilot because I don't want to be spoiled too much if it's later on getting a proper animation.
>>
>>151930852
Yeah, pretty much where you should stop.
>>

It's always funny that American cartoons about Mexico are always
>"Hola, me llamo Miguel! I live in a small town with mi familia and have wacky slice-of-life adventures!"
While actual Mexican cartoons are like
>"I am the greatest luchador in history! I will travel to the Underworld and challenge Mictlantecuhtli, the Aztec God of Death, to a wrestling match!"

I'm tempted to continue later, but I also wondering: How long would their actual production length be for this kind of animation? It's a 40-minute pilot, and they have only just made the 3-minute (partial) opening.

Can't believe this meme is proven right.

>>151930922
Its because all the second generation Mexicans in America get self-conscious and let that anxiety poison their brains into wanting to depict their existence as justified in a country that isn't theirs.
Mexicans born and raided in Mexico know who they are, they know what they like, and so feel free to indulge in their culture free of fear.
>>
>>151930965
>in a country that isn't theirs
Suppose only a fraction of the white people who larp as being pure European trying to blend in with their "home countries" would understand it isn't that much different from being biracial; you don't belong in either place. By people like you, not American because we're not "white" (but being black is fine), and by Mexicans you're also seen as foreign (despite looking the same).
>>
>>151930957
I find this image fucking funny because Mucha Lucha showed a whole lot more of love to Mexico and lucha libre that it almost edges past El Tigre in terms of mexican rep. That show was made by like an Australian jew and chink.

Light skinned Mexicans are actually on their way to being the next group integrated into "American Whiteness" which is the cultural demographic I was referring to, it may take few decades longer by they will fulfill the same cultural niche in the southwest that Italians do on the east coast.
I also apologize if my wording offended you, I was not trying to imply anything about you being lesser or the like, just that Mexicans have not properly integrated in yet and so that causes a lot of the kind of cultural anxiety that gets in the way of one capability to make cool shit.
>>151931179
>>151931357
I read a book about the kind of topic you two were talking about in regards to the American meat packing industry.
From the Hispanic side of things, most first generation immigrants see their black coworkers as lazy, incompetent, and unworthy of their citizen status when compared to how hard the Hispanic workers work.
In contrast the black workers don't think about the Hispanic workers at all unless interacted with because they are wrapped up in their own struggle as the bottom rung position of those with citizenship status.

If I had to compare the two situations, the Latino struggle is one of not yet being a integrated part of American culture which poses serious immediate risks, while the black struggle is that while they are citizens the time for them to be integrated as a whole is long past leaving them as the perennial loser of the "American dream".
Bad now but will eventually be resolved with time vs less bad but permanent.
>>

It's because some people are deathly afraid of being 'unsensitive' about cultural things, but at the end of the day people just want cool stories, not a plastic, artificial thing.

It's a zonkey, we had this tradition of painting donkeys as zebras because they were difficult to see in photos a century when cameras were black and white, the tradition was kept either way even though they've been replaced with fake donkey props recently since they had to stand at the Revolucion avenue for several hours a day.

This is basically a professional Netflix animated pilot, which is no surprise given Jorge’s experience. That said, I understand why he went indie for this project, because while it has his old cartoony style, the story is way more violent and sexual than anything he’s done before. I can see execs getting confused when the story shifts from wacky cartoon kids to a guy getting drunk on a strip club, all with the same energy. I don’t mind it, and I think most people would be ok with it, but execs are too stupid to see beyond basic labels.
I don’t know whats the future of this because Jorge is involved in other stuff, he’s not jumping to be full indie, he just signed a deal with WB to make a Speedy Gonzales movie. But I hope it goes somewhere, I think releasing this massive pilot will at least take weight off his shoulders.
>>
>>151930784
amazing, but I'm a bit disappointed it isn't dubbed in spanish
>>
>>151931515
Desu most third generation hispanics only have a very loose grasp on the Spanish language in a similar way to what most Italian Americans knew of Italian by the 1940s. That was the turning point where Italian Americans started to be more broadly accepted because the language/cultural divide melted away a lot faster once they were pretty much all English-speakers that peppered in some funny Italian words here and there. Same thing with Poles on a more regional level. You're already starting to see a lot more relaxed outlooks towards them now that a growing number were born and raised in America and barely know Spanish.
>>
>>151932449
I imagine that he basically released this to see if anyone was even interested at all, since pedigree doesn't matter for crap these days, and if he finds out people actually want more El Guapo he'll spend his spare time finishing the pilot before setting up something like a patreon or whatnot dedicated solely to the production of El Guapo and keeping its fans updated on its progress. I doubt he's hurting for money, with how many projects he's completed, so he won't have much incentive to cut corners beyond any animation restrictions or the voice actors being unavailable due to other work.
>>
>>151930999
To me it was really random that mucha lucha used "donuts" as a punch line... But I guess making it random is funnier than just saying tacos or churros like el tigre did some times.
>>
>>151932624
Mexico has its own form of donuts, and donuts are a bit more universal than churros
>>
>>151931515
The Mexicans disdain for Blacks while coming from a Country ruined by Cartel violence and corruption is weird. You'd think the Mexican side would have some semblance of respect for Blacks for putting up with American bullshit long enough to not get wiped out
>From the Hispanic side of things, most first generation immigrants see their black coworkers as lazy, incompetent, and unworthy of their citizen status when compared to how hard the Hispanic workers work.
They can't build houses for shit and leave Modelo cans and other beer bottles everywhere, they're tolerated for never complaining and working for pennies. I have a buddy who checks how well the houses they build stand to code and they almost never do so he has to argue with who's ever in charge to get them to redo it
>>
>>151932448

Despite his bad takes on Twitter and the fact that his work is often more style than substance, there’s still something admirable about Jorge and the persistence he’s shown over the past 20 years. That dedication has brought him to a point in his career where he can do projects like this for fun, rather than churning out corporate slop or staying stuck in the same niche like many of the cartoonists who dominated the 2010s.

This was genuinely a delight and didn’t feel “safe edgy” like a lot of other indie adult animation. It told a solid emotional story about redemption while also having a genuinely cool premise and setting. Overall, it feels like a more mature version of El Tigre, which is the highest praise possible, especially since that show always felt like it was held back and cut short by being made for kids.

Marketing, basically. Disney tried to promote it as their version of the Cassagrandes aka Mestizo bait show when it was specifically a los angles slice of life. Latin Americans thought it was a show taking place in Latin America and not about a second generation girl growing up in Los Angeles, so they got mad at the inaccuracies that were meant to reflect the fact that the character wasn't really from Latin America.

9 episodes, at least so far. The pilot is listed as chapter 1. So if it's specifically episodic, that's about 5 eps to deal with the mummy, the werewolf gang, the flesh golem, the chupacabra, and the fish man, and three eps to focus with Don Draculon's cartel, and that's assuming they aren't interconnected and thus sharing spotlight

>>151933164
That's the thing, Hard Work /= Good Work, when your a first generation immigrant coming to America from the south, your coming in part because the effort to pay outcome is dramatically better even as a non-citizen and in this they get to see the ghost of the classic American Dream where Hard Work is the deciding factor. This ghost spurs them onwards and in turn causes resentment because hard work and taking it can get them far enough, and so when they see their closest equivalent in the system but have that same ethic and yet be higher in fosters resentment.

Güero is actually slang for Blondes, not just white skin. Some use the more 'cleaner' 'Rubio'. But both work the same.

Holy shit stop side stepping the argument. What Ennis describes is exactly what Gutierrez, who is born in mexico but raised in the US since he was like 10, is doing.

All this because you are basically schizoing out trying to appropriate a shitty facebook OC made 5+ years ago by another mexican (shit a third unrelated mexican turned guero balazos into a webcomic months later) who was *specifically* shitting on Gutierrez appropriating the mexican identity and putting it into that norteño-chicano blend to score brownie points with his cali beanmouth clique.

Imagine starting a social fight on the internet because you out yourself as clueless on an nilotic basket weaving forum

Not really. It's a bitter Irish-American going "Everyone is a poser but me" while being one of the biggest posers in comics ever. If you say that's what Gutierrez is doing, then I sure as fuck don't believe you.

Shit like half of ennis' comic career is shitting on US culture. Every character on the boys is a parody of an american archetype or celebrity.

Half of Ennis's comic career is using his comics to kick down strawmen of cape comics over shit that he's just as guilty of, especially when it comes to edgelords that he treats with disdain while writing crap like The Boys with all the mental awareness of a five year old playing with turds calling someone smelly. He bitches about American Imperialism while giving British Exceptionalism a pass, he bitches about cape comics being filled with sociopathic bastards while fellating Nick Fury and Wolverine, and his characters all talk about how disgusted with how cynical and defeatist the public is while writing characters that save for Superman don't have a single sincere bone in their body.

Frankly, fuck Ennis. Mick bastard can go fellate himself over his enlightened opinions in his basement alone. The Boys is a cancer upon the comics industry, and so are you for liking it.

Ennis's Judge Dredd comics were crap, which he admitted was a product of his fanboyism making him afraid to be willing to change the status quo in favor of fellating Dredd.
Hellblazer was okay.
Hitman was decent to meh, he really should have just used Section Eight once instead of bothering to redeem Six Pack.
Preacher was shit.
All of his war stories make it clear the man is both the biggest fanboy of war stories and the worst person to be writing them, considering he accuses everyone but himself of having their own stilted version of WWII but can't help but commit the same deeds himself when it comes down to it.
Dastardly & Muttley was shit.
And so on and so forth, dude always inserts cynicism into everything and acts like that makes him enlightened when it just makes him shit.

Hell, you going
>they were disguising real life people or pop culture as superheroes and shitting on them
means that his worth to comic books is on par with South Park, which is basically the "Everyone is stupid but me" of cartoons and social commentary.

So go choke on a dick.

Fine, fine, I'll just blame...literally all American animation apart from Primal.

Defending Primos and "Latinx" shit stuff that is vastly unpopular with spanish audiences
>>
That was fun. Hope it gets picked up

that was easily the best indie pilot I've seen which isn't a surprise given its from a well established industry vet. It's refreshing seeing an adult cartoon that uses animation for gags and is actually nice to look at(even if it isn't fully animated yet). I really hope this gets a full series but I'm not holding my breath since Jorge has a lot on his plate and the animatic hasn't gotten crazy high views yet

Shit nigger i did not come here to discuss fucking ennis. He wrote a page that's true within context, i don't give a shit about the rest.

>>151938657
oh shid, my bad
>>
>>151939471
>He wrote a page that's true within context
I don't agree it is, given who's writing it. But I can leave it at that if you're not interested in arguing further.

Isn't Ennis an Englishman from North Ireland?

Mexicans should stop brown nosing against Blacks for Whites and maybe things will start looking up

Mucha Lucha was also vector animated so its one of the few shows from back then with a clean 4k upscale

i REALLY hate the whole Jew racism shit... but things like those are making very hard for me to defend those long nosed dicks.

and for the record about FICTIONAL Jews: Kyle is just as bad as cartman, and not really a good Jew role model... if anything, he's WORSE.
>>
>>151939541
Blacks aren't going to treat Mexicans (or any other group that's not black) well regardless if they suck up to Whites or not
>>
>>151939840
Probably not but other races hurt themselves trying to cozy up to White people. It's really easy to get manipulated for a chance of the American Dream that was never promised to you specifically

I feel like this thread has veered off course from the narco vampire hunting luchadores

That's the thing though, its happening and has happened before, it just didn't for black people because of both how hard reconstruction was fucked after the civil war and the deep psychological resentment that comes from the simple truth that from the start to be Black in America came with an expectation of being consumed and if not consumed discarded.
And yet (assuming your black from how your talking) you persist in a country that has deemed you worthless outside of entertainment. Which is an admirable exhibit of endurance but also a different context.

The 4th post in the thread was /pol/bait and it dips between the two topics.

I mean I've seen all his works besides El Tigre and that one Oz film he did character designs for and they just have so much personality plus adore his character design. Maya and the Three is probably my favourite work of his from the action, story and just an excellent main villain with Mictlan.
>>
What happened with book of life 2
>>
>>151937519
It's so funny how assblasted he gets about Captain America when that's a character actually made by war vets when Garth never served despite obsessing over army shit.
>>
>>151938307
Great points but just wanted to say ironically Ennis hates Wolverine, it's Punisher he fellates since he did that crap kills the Marvel universe comic.
>>
>>151940662
There's probably some weird rights logistics since Disney technically owns the film now even if he can have the characters appear in his other works.

Was that supposed to be a thing? Did we get robbed of more Skeletwins sexo?

>And yet (assuming your black from how your talking) you persist in a country that has deemed you worthless outside of entertainment.

Going back to Africa didn't pan out, the former slaves enslaved the locals. Blacks back then really didn't like African's too much and I can't say the relationship between the two has gotten any better thanks to grifters
It's also much easier to stay in America because here you have connections with others like you which can form protection, rather than move out of Country and have to deal with a new kind of problem with no connections

Maya and the Three had like 40 minute episodes and that was a great length
>>
>>151940335
kinda hard to keep the course when we know all we have is an animatic, an animatic of a full 40 min ep. but an animatic anyway.

not to mention we dont know if we will get more eps after this...

Maybe wait for the TikTok that narrates all the plot and the characters actions with an ai voice for 5 minutes
