I just read the Gate Crasher TPB and I thought it was shit. Seemed like a throwback to those embarrassing 90’s comics like Dangergirl or Gen13.

It wasn't a throwback, it came out along side of them in 1999 and 2000. It was publishing by short lived Black Bull Entertainment, an offshoot of Wizard magazine
And in the 90's Amanda Connor built her carrer on "bad girl" books going from Tomoe, a ninja spinoff of Shi, to an iconic run on Vampirella, to Painkiller Jane and 22 Brides, to Gate Crasher to another iconic book The Pro before settling at DC for Power Girl and Harley Quinn.
Gate Crasher being the first book really being sold on her star power
