>This will sell our show
>>151933734It's kind of impressive how unmarketable this show was. They needed to add 'End of the World' to the title so it'd sell better
>>151933734>>151934260Which is sad, because it's a great show. Lots of moments that really hit me.
>>151934260>They needed to add 'End of the World' to the title so it'd sell betterIsn't that the fucking premise of the show?
>>151934341IIRC it was just called 'Carol' at first. Netflix probably forced Dan to add '& The End of the World' at the last second
You HAVE chosen an officefu, haven't you anon?
No, cuz the art style is hideous
>>151934823Yeah, the black lady Carol befriends
>>151933734>anon can only see through the lens of profit despite owning nothing himself
>>151933734I remember people trying to pretend this pile of stale shit had something profound or meaningful to say, but within a week of it coming out, all discussion was dead silent.
>>151935350I guess family guy is extremely profound and meaningful then?
>>151934340MehAnimation was a terrible medium for a show this subtle and this reliant on facial expressions
>>151935358It sure is.
>>151933734I don't mind niche stories. But this didn't have to be a niche story. It's a pretty universal experience to feel like you're "wasting your life" or "wasting your time". It's also a very common experience to enjoy things many others would consider boring. A classic hot chocolate on a snowy day is just as kino as skydiving for some. Problem is this type of writing forced it to be niche. These characters are either incredibly uninteresting or just annoying. I actually don't care if they live. Carol is the only one who is so pathetic in a wounded puppy kind of sense that you can't help but gravitate towards her, but the VA (Whose name I forget but I know was in Baskets) is powerlifting the fuck out of this character. "They're supposed to be mundane!" does not captivate an audience. Carol is pathetic and she's still quite charming. The commercial art style really put me off and I have a hard time being interested in existential stories that never dwell on spirituality. And I don't just mean, "Everyone turns to religion near the end because they're panicked!", but the real contemplation that every has of, "What happens when I die?". I feel like many writers don't want to explore that because they've already come to a concrete conclusion in their mind, so any form of research or exploration to make your script better could radically change that.

>>151935389This. why did it have to be animated, anyway?
>>151935350High concept with an interesting vibe that wasn’t delivered on. I liked Carol, wanted to love the show but the execution is vapid.
>>151933734I liked the show. I don't remember if there will be a second season.Probably not.
>>151933734>mfw Carol is supposed to be 42
>>151936010I don't think they explore "What happens after I die" because despite the framing, it's not a story about death. It's a story about life. There's a reason we never actually see the planets collide and the world end. We all feel the weight of death approaching in different ways, but the reason Carol uses a world ending calamity is an excuse to put everyone on equal footing to tell a story about getting what you want out of life.
>>151936152Shut, really? She looks 50.
>>151935350>all discussion was dead silent.that's what /co/ is like about literally anything that lacks waifus to simp for or culture war to argue about.
>>151936103I guess because the creators know animation but not film? I really don't understand it, myself. Maybe they had to pretend it was an adult animated comedy to get greenlit. There are a few surreal sequences where animation helps but they're so tame and few and far between that you could easily afford to do them with some minor CG and editing tricks. But really it goes back to the show being very slow and quiet and subtle with all these long drawn-out moments of silent emoting...except the characters can't emote subtly because it's simplified animation so they're just eerily still.
>>151936195>>151936152Carol is 42 as pictured by people that are currently 60-somethingBoomers aged like that because of lead and cigarettes and tanning oil instead of sunblock
>>151936188>the reason Carol uses a world ending calamity is an excuse to put everyone on equal footing to tell a story about getting what you want out of life.diff anon but the this fell flat because the backdrop of the infrastructure, luxury services and travel destinations still operating as normal went totally unexamined so they could make storylines like carol’s office work. I think it would have been interesting if they either tried to come up with a worldbuilding answer to truly put everyone in the situation on equal footing during end times or acknowledged inequality in Carol’s life upfront. which would only add realism to her “there are no stakes/you decide the stakes” theme. like >>151936010 said about spirituality, it feels like the appeal of this premise is from the solid human story questions it raised then didn’t seem interested in exploring in the show.
>>151936694>infrastructure, luxury services and travel destinations still operating as normalLike covid? It's almost as if this is about covid.
>>151936152She's a SEDENTARY 42-year-old. That's an important distinction.
>>151934340This show is trash unless you just want to goon to misshapen hags. Don't let /co/ waste your time.
>>151933734any good?
>>151936752That’s why the choice is disappointing, covid is a layup story because everyone lived it. They set up the premise about WFH types navel gazing about their status quo being disrupted, which could be the start of something grounded in life, but it avoids questioning load bearing beliefs or consequences outside that worldview. Making it covid instead of the end of the world would make the stakes make sense but not fix thematic limitations so idk if it would help the show.
>>151933734its like they want to make sure you always automatically feel disinterest or annoyance when seeing a female lead.
>>151936228Outside of /co/ and the wider interenet. People wanted this to believe this show was deeply introspective and had something insightful to say about the human condition, but it didn't. It was about an office busybody with zero interesting qualities who wanted to feel special for only wanting to do vapid, banal activities who goes on a journey to learn that her boring, worthless life is actually super duper special and amazing, and everyone else is silly, and then the world doesn't end.
>>151937649It's decent, but lacking in some areas
>>151934398I'm 99% sure it was never publicly referred to as anything other than its final title. It was announced only a couple months before its release and already had that title at that time.
I liked it. I noticed that I tend to like one-season-and-cancelled quirky end-of-the-world TV shows. This one You, Me and the Apocalypse and No Tomorrowwere all right up my lane and I wished they'd have gotten second seasons, especially YMatANot a cartoon, tho. Still good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2pEki6q2eohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUjx-Iy1h6c
>>151940109I'm working off assumptions, so sure, I could be wrong. But it does seem like the type of marketing gimmick Netflix would pull, and I wouldn't blame 'em. With some unconventional designs and an overall calmer vibe, this show didn't exactly make for the easiest sell...
sister hike ep was phenomenal
Absolute shit. Only you retards would like this.
>>151933734Why does Netflix consistently approve animated shows that are fucking hideous? Must be some retarded boomer who thinks that's what the kids want, yet at the same time they're scrambling to get a bunch of beautifully drawn anime on the platform.
>>151936152She looks like a 42 year old
>>151935238rude
I don't understand how people continue to subscribe to NetflixI got it for the Christmas football games and clicked around and could not find ANY original content worth watching
>>151933734I love not watching Netflix. Enjoy your sissy hypno illuminatislop.
Why is the art so ugly?
>>151933734The end of the world could've easily been averted if everyone held their fists against the planet and punched it real hard.
>>151935389>>151936103>>151936427I watched through Pluribus recently and I thought that it was probably really expensive for how little actually happens in the whole damn 9 hour run, and might have been able to do a lot more with the concept if budget wasn't such an issue.I haven't seen Carol, but judging by the premise alone it probably has more in common with Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, which probably could have had a much lower budget than $10M in 2012 if Steve Carell and Keira Knightley weren't the lead actors.
>>151942612To cater to old office shits
