>>151936515Kurt Busiek pitched this idea earlier in the wake of "Untold Tales of Spider-Man" and Byrne probably would have been better off with him (or Fabian Nicieza or some other writer from that school) doing the scripting on this one.It's odd that Byrne will always be best known for his work developing the rebooted X-Men but he seems to have been in the camp that didn't really care for the reboot all that much. His heart seemed to be with the Silver Age team.

>>151939566The issue was less Byrne needing a scripter to write dialogue and narration for his stories, and more him needing a co-plotter for this book to stop the series meandering and storylines dragging on as much as they did. It could've been a lot better if it was more focused and with less subplots that take forever to go anywhere.Byrne was a fanboy who turned pro, so it's probably not surprising he cares more about the X-Men from when he was a reader to the mid-70s new characters introduced not that long before he started working on the book. Byrne and Claremont having such a turbulent working relationship probably didn't help.

Legend has it that Byrne actually had the pages drawn, but editorial wouldn't allow it. Magnetofags were absolutely chimping out about Byrne.
