How come no one tries to emulate the color qualities of cel animation when it looked objectively better? All cartoons these days are too bright and saturated. Garish even.

LTC tried. Didn't quite hit the mark tho. It's not so much the Cell painting as it is the fact the animation is pressed onto film.

Arthur never used cel, as far as I know of. The difference is purely 4:3 vs 16:9, with the modern version also having more "fidelity".

Are you retarded? Arthur began in 1996, digitally made TV animation was unheard of.

Also TV shows in the old days used to actually have prints of stuff, not just digital files. So even in the era of early digital there is a type of mechanical and physical aspect where you had tapes.

Because kids respond better to saturation.

Explain. For instance the animation in this example isn't much different qualitatively. It's all down to the colors. Maybe grain and artefacts if we're talking HD but that wasn't a thing back in the day.

The least complicated answer is that when you try to match that vibe now, someone asks why the screen is so dark and you change it back, but habits changed naturally when artists switched to producing and reviewing art on backlit screens in digital color range instead of photographing backlit analog paintings with a market-dependent color palette
