>>151941043There is a deeper cultural underpinning to the creation of Kwanzaa in that since most African-Americans can't trace their lineage to specific regions, ethnicities, or cultures it was intentionally designed to draw from multiple traditions and cultural events from the areas where slaves were primarily sourced. It's not replicating something specific, it's drawing from multiple sources to build something new out of lost cultural lineage and in that way it's probably one of the most uniquely American things ever. The problem is putting in December and having it compete with Christmas; should have dropped it in March when there is no competition for holidays.
