>>151948890I feel like it comes from so many reasons, mainly from it being inspired by ren n stimpy but heres my take, hope i dont sound like a reddit autist>the show knowing weird it is but instead of feeling shamed about it,it embraces it in a funny way> being comfy show (just like bluey) and the comfyness mostly comes from the bubble water sfx and the bg textures>main characters are fully fleshed out, patrick isn't just spongebob's "friend" he has a personality outside of that, squidward isn't just the annoying retard, he actually has a reason for it>spongebob is yellow (minions, charlie dom, pikachu, jake the dog) name ONE yellow main character that didn't go mainstream
>>151949375That's not true at all, the pilot episode immediately caught on and season 1 was quite popular, with it absolutely snowballing into a phenomenon by the time season 2 started. Spongebob was fuckhuge by the time the movie premiered.
