Previous >>151926056Today is 2019Previously, there was a lot of hustle and bustle with the Starbuck Jones movie finishing production. The cast had a Comic-Con panel and afterwards it was decided, thanks to a tweet from Jeff Murdoch, to hold the premiere at the Valentine Theater in Centerville as an attempt to save it. Pete, for some reason, was sent ahead to do "advance work" and encountered Mindy—Jeff's daughter, Ed Crankshaft's granddaughter and ex-Montoni's waitress—and somehow the two of them hit it off and began dating. Around the same time, Darin managed to meet and connect with comics legend Phil Holt who soon after died and left him a bunch of comic cover illustrations which Pete subsequetly auctioned off for charity much to the approval of the ghosts of Lisa and Phil. At the SJ premiere, there was also a double wedding as Cliff Anger and Vera Nash were married alongside Mason and Cindy.Pete and Darin were contacted later on by Chester Hagglemore who wanted to start up a new company to "revive the spirit of Batom Comics" and with SJ done, the two bozos decided to leave their better paying jobs for Atomik Komix where it was seemingly just them until they were later joined by Mindy as a colorist. Meanwhile Bull managed to form a friendship with Buck Bedlow, a rival player from Big Walnut Tech, and the two would regularly get together to reminisce about their playing days. Wally started up his last semester of college and was paired up with Adeela, an Iraqi immigrant, in a partnership that started awkwardly but was eventually smoothed over. He also learned that Rana had reembraced Islam and intended to become a teacher and go back to Afghanistan so she could educate girls there.
All young Westview women must work for Montoni's at some point in their lives. It's a law, I think.
Wow, Les is actually at his job. Also this Linda retirement thing will be pretty much ignored later and she'll still be teaching. And while Bull might have a degenerative brain disease, let's not forget the real victiims in all of this.
Funky New Year OP, and fellow Winkerbeaners.
Les is not only at his job, but actually doing his job too.
Just kidding, his real job is book signings. Also haha, women like to shop did you know that?
What a wacky way to begin what will be a preachy week of strips.
Hey kids, 'member Parkland? Also, stuff like this is where the wanting to be timely and current runs into the whole year long buffer since it means he can only reference things long after the fact.
>>151951216Oh they remember he had kids.
Now that that's done, Funky and mother-in-law jokes.
On the surface, it's trying to be a poignant reflection that we're still dealing with certain problems. In reality it feels more like patting himself on the back that he'd done this story 25 years earlier.
>>151951257Didn't Les and bull bury the hatchet and he's been a supporting friend for years? Now he's got brain damage and all Les can think of is he used to bully me 40 years ago?God this is disgusting
>>151951468Don't worry, it'll get better.
>>151951334>>151951311>>151951352>Go from serious story about wanting to do something to protest school shootings>Go to funky dealing with his mother in lawMy neck got whiplash
I guess at this point in the Funkyverse simply owning a comic shop means people are required to stand in line.
So wait, was it all just imaginary or did it actually happen? Because this is kind of implying both. And it spoke during the Comic-Con panel as if it was still sentient.
First appearance of Batton Thomas. Les may be Batiuk's stand-in but Batton IS just about as literal a self-insert as you can get. His life story/career mirrors Batiuk's more or less exactly, "Three O'Clock High" is just an expy of the strip you're reading (in fact, that was one of the original names Batiuk considered for the strip) and when he shows up in post-Funky Crankshaft he'll have recently ended Three O'Clock High but is still doing a Crankshaft expy called The Wrinkles. He'll be aroud way too much in the last year or two of the strip and will, I believe, be the character who coins one of the most infamous Batiukisms.
Allen Bellman was a Golden Age artist who did work for Timely and Atlas before leaving comics in the 1960s. He passed away in 2020.
Not even his own daughter can escape getting smugly dismissed by Les. Also the change to making Summer a, sigh, writer will be important down the road and makes me think Batiuk was setting up for ending it on the 50th anniversary for a while.
Just in case it wasn't obvious, Butter Brinkel is a riff on Fatty Arbuckle.
This is going to go into a weird place.
>>151951311>Referencing the fake machine gun from Act 1
Yes, the implication is that BUTTER BRINKEL TOOK THE FALL FOR A JEALOUS, GUN-WIELDING, TALKING CHIMPANZEE.Also this is the end of the story. No definitive conclusion and it'll never be mentioned or brought up again. Maybe because Batiuk realized there was nowhere else to go with Zanzibar the Murder Chimp.
>>151951528>>151951515I'm just going to assume they lobotimized Holtron and Funky and Crazy are just misremembering. In which case, RIP
And Jessica quits Hollywood to... well, I don't know. Be a housewife? Because I'm sure Darin is obviously pulling in a ton of money being one of three employees at a small, rinky-dink comic publisher.
>>151951586I can't decide if "Three O'Clock High" would been a better or more poorly aged title than "Funky Winkerbean".
>>151951586If Batton Thomas and David "Walky" Walkerton had a fistfight, who would win?
More line standing.
>>151952017Probably Walky in a straight fistfight. Otherwise, Walky has his knife wielding criminal sister and a fat schizo who thinks she's a superhero while Batton has Zanzibar.
Pete and Mindy won't actually be married by the end of the series. Actually when they pop back up in Crankshaft (where they're now major characters), I believe Pete will propose to her again. They're basically treated as a young couple starting out like none of this even happened.
First appearance of Ruby Lith, yet another fossil here to muscle out page time from other characters. She'll basically act as Mindy's mentor and every story about Mindy and Ruby will be about pushing back against the chavinists of the comics world.
>>151951528this could be either 2019 or 2029 and I choose to believe Holtron connected to the internet, looked at the sjw-chud grifter shitshow, went all LOEG Tempest-era Alan Moore and said "Fuck all y'all" and pretended to be a regular computerAlso "Play It Again, Funky" is on that shelf, based on this.
>>151952130Yeah, as a recursive meta reference it at least ties into the actual joke of the strip.
This week starts te big death of Bull storyline that got puff pieces in the New York Times and shit before it started running.
>>151951137I like how Becky said nothing to Wally about Rana converting to Islam all this time. Fucking one-armed bitch
>>151952234She spends more time with Dinkle than her own family so she probably didn't know shit.
>>151951190Goddamn it. Bull deserved so much better than this.
That road claims another one.>>151952264Well...
Just in case this doesn't make sense, 10-50 would be a motor vehicle accident, PI I think would be point of impact and DRT would be "dead right there".
>>151951387;_; Bull... it's just not fair.
>>151951468Les is the fucking antagonist of this whole shitshow and nothing will change my mind.
I know people at the time had issue with that second strip assuming that Summer and Keisha were insulting Bull but because they're not utter shitbag characters I'll give Batiuk the benefit of the doubt and say that wasn't meant to be the intent. More just that he was odd but still a good coach that they liked. There's no excusing that strip with Les though. It's the man's funeral and you're STILL whining about shit that happened in high school. He told you he envied you, helped save your job over Chien's article, rehabbed Summer's knee and got you in shape for climbing a fucking mountain, helped in keeping St. Lisa's memory pure from Bio-Dad. And still, STILL all you can do is whine about him bullying you 40 years ago. Out of all of Les's bullshit, I think this is unambiguously his lowest point and the moment that truly cements him as an utterly detestable, self-absored dickhead.
And yeah, this is the end of the story. One week for a funeral. Do we see any real words said about him from his wife? His actual daughter? Nope, just a few perfunctory strips including a goddamn Dinkle one, despite the fact the characters barely ever interacted and more Les whining. Also, I legitimately think this is the last time Jinx ever shows up.
Of course, besides award chasing, the other point of the story was that it gets Mason and Cindy back in town so it can be all smiles and cheers so Les can have Lisa's Story optioned again, but this time it'll be done right because we've already establised that Mason isn't shallow and dumb like the rest of Hollywood.
>>151951688Good old shithead Les. Not even the slightest bit of pride that his daughter is following his footsteps, just worried about how much money she makes. I'm so glad your fucking bitch wife died, you smug prick.
>>151952386>Bury the hatchet with Bull>Bull dies>"But he bullied me in high school though!"Les. It's been years. At least wait until you've left the fuckin funeral.
>>151951815A monkey on a cupcake. So, the monkey FUCKS the cupcake, Batiuk? You sick fuck.
The debut of the Pizza Monster, also called the Pizza Box Monster which is, naturally, based on a similar thing the real life basis for Montoni's does. These will run every Halloween for the next few years but for obvious reasons won't appear in 2022. The character will reappear in Crankshaft though as the new co-owner of Montoni's along with Pete. The main gag is Funky, or whoever, trying to figure out their identity but ever being successful.
>>151952386Fucking Christ. This shit legitimately makes me wonder if Batiuk had grown to hate Les and was intentionally writing him to be a prick the readers shouldn't like (iirc Agatha Christie did that with Poirot). That or it's just self inserting and he himself still hadn't got over high school bullying decades after the fact. If that's the case the Willis parallels become even more acute.
>>151951387God it's hard seeing Bull get like this.
>>151952108OH MY GOD NO ONE CARES ABOUT THESE RANDOM OLD FUCKING COMIC BOOK PEOPLE JESUS CHRIST BRING BACK THE TULPA CAT OR SOMETHING AT LEAST FUCK
>>151952532I think more the latter. I think he was trying to be poignant about how that kind of stuff can still stick with you but as is to be expected, the actual execution of it is clumsy and just makes Les look bad. I don't think he's TRYING to make Les look bad but I also think he's too myopic to realize that he does or if he does he doesn't see it as that big a deal and thinks the reaction is overblown. The current stuff with Joyce in Dumbing of Age is probably similar. The creators are too invested in their pets to see just how awful their flaws make them. The only difference is that Funky had a snarkdom who would point this out while Willis only has ass patters in his comment section.
>>151952283Fuck.
Anyway, PBM weeks basically seem like an attempt to recapture some of the Act I whimsy (another reason I think he knew he was going to be ending it relatively soon). As late era Funky strips go, they're inoffensive and vaguely amusing at least.
>>151952594How nice of him to warn them that he'll be back ahead of time.
>>151952386HES IN THE GROUND YOU COCKSUCKING FAGGOT LES WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT GODDAMN IT I HOPE HES FUCKING THE SHIT OUT OF YOUR STUPID DEAD WIFE IN HELL YOU COCKSUCKER
>>151951966>There was never a team up with Zanzibar and plant manDamn
Just in case there was any doubt, confirmation that Bull KYS'd himself. Also, the problem with this story is that I believe practice squad players receive the same insurance coverage from the NFL as any other active or former player. So he absolutely should have been covered which makes the core premise of the story not really work.
>>151952466"We want to do this the right way, tastefully, with respect to Lisa""Uhhhgh I regret this because I'm not writing it"Fuck you Les
Also what the hell, why are you displaying the helmet he wore WHEN HE COMMITTED SUICIDE on the mantle like it's a fucking trophy?
>>151952386Les is the biggest piece of shit I've read about.
>>151952669Surprised he didn't bitch to her about being bullied in high school
>>151951888Was the machine gun always fake? I read Act I thinking it was supposed to be real
>>151952386ITS HARD TO FORGET BECAUSE YOU NEVER LET IT GO YOU PIECE OF HUMAN FECES
Okay, again more just casually forgetting the past. Bull admitted to Les already that he envied him for having a stable home life back during the Matt Miller stuff. And Bull's first appearance was helping run the Lisa's Legacy run. Why is any of this a surprise to him? Why is it being treated to the reader like WE'RE supposed to be surprised by this?
>>151952710Yeah, some time in the '70s it was mentioned that it doesn't fire bullets and just played the school fight song when you cranked the handle. Then I think somewhere late in Act I it was mentioned as just being cardboard.
>>151952526>>151952512So who the hell is he? Wally? Lisa's ghost?
>>151952710I believe at some point, it was said to be fake. It just plays the School's fight song if the trigger was pulled.>>151952720Remember that retcon where Bull got Les away from some bullies by faking a pounding?
>>151952742>just throws it in a drawerFuck. You. Les. I don't know if I've ever hated any fictional character as much as this fucking scumfuck.
>>151951086What a bitch.
>>151952720Man if I was her I would be shouting at Les out about how bull had been Les' friend and supporter for decades
>>151952742So instead of focusing on bulls family, or the football team, this story ends with Les getting told how amazing and great he is?What the fuck
>>151952813Why would you be surprised at this point honestly
>>151952745>So who the hell is he? Wally? Lisa's ghost?I THINK Wally shows up in one of the strips which probably eliminates him. Cory too who'd be the other best guess. There's another series where PBM is basically like "who said I was a man?" but that could just be them fucking around. They also show up in the final Sunday strip so you cann probably eliminate anyone who appeared in thereMaybe it's Sadie? Matt Miller? I think the actual answer is that Batiuk doesn't know and if they're ever revealed it'll be a retconed in answer.
>>151951688Bull was right to bully Les in high school. If anything he should have done it more.
>"I'd say rest in Heaven Bull ,but we all know how you bullied me in High School">Said a man close to 60I have more respect for Andy Capp at this point
>>151952838Hey Andy Capp sells some good fucking hot fries
>>151952861>Knockoff cheetos>Good
>>151952882They aren't cheese flavored, tastelet.
>>151951352I don’t mind a little bit of politics in my newspaper comics but it is more than a little depressing having to read about you know who in my funky winkerbean “funnies.” Even more cringe than having to read the terms “fleabay,” “snackgram,” and the other artifacts of modern culture that have been popping up more and more.
That's it for this year. Next time will cover 2020.Adeela runs afoul of the feds and being 2020, that means a momentous and world changing event will occur. That's right; Lisa's Story heads into production and Les is in Hollywood to help with it.
>>151952745It's clearly famous recurring Funky Winkerbean character Bill Clinton
>>151952986That face reminds me of something out of fucking Marmaduke.
>>151952813You should know by now characters only exists in this universe for one of two reasons: to serve Les’s character or to write comic books
>>151952742So since ghosts are literally real in the Funkyverse, when is Bull coming back to haunt Les? I hope it’s at his lowest point, to smack him with a wet towel.
>>151952108Does all this Ruby lady do is go on and on about how "as a woman" she had it a bit rough?
>>151952386Piss off Les.... just piss off. The man did so fucking much for you over the years. However because he picked on you, all that goes down the drain. Even at his fucking funeral you can't just let the past die. Part of me wonders if Lisa didn't will her cancer to kill her so she wouldn't have to put up with you.
>>151952720Strip 4: How much you wanna bet THIS is what makes Les "forgive" Bull for being a bully? It wasn't helping his only daughter recover from a knee injury, but making donations to his little pet project.
>>151953442No, that's pretty much what her role is which ropes Mindy into the "sexism is bad" stuff too. Which is kind of a shame because Mindy, while a bit bland, is still relatively benign as the out off place normie but becomes more unlikable when the sexism stuff comes up.>>151953775Lisa, the retconned beautiful angelic version after she came back and not the original ugly, neurotic and borderline yandere she was originally, basically worshipped the ground Les walked on and even threatened and taunted Cayla from beyond the grave with her video tapes. Her reaction to being told the hospital fucked up and gave her the wrong scans was to just go "oh well, guess I'll die then" instead of using her law connections to find a lawyer who would sue the hell out of the hospital or practice or whatever which would also help set up her daughter's future. She gets put in the death row appeals division, gets dismissed as not being able to handle it, proves her coworker wrong and then quits and proves him right because she lost and couldn't handle it. She's as bad as Les but it's more in a defeatist, giving up at the first sign of hardship way than the self-pitying grudge holding whiner her husband is.

>>151951262>Funky New Yearhttps://youtu.be/4yNRcrJyDfg
>>151952742>>151952720>>151952386I was more lenient with a lot of the other stuff up to this. The other stuff prior, ok maybe it's something done for humor or Batiuk did a flub-up or something. But this just does not work with what we've seen previously. >>151952594That was my thought on it as well, it felt like he was trying to show that Les was still traumatized by the bullying, but it just does not work because of what we've seen of the two since Act 2:They play tennis togetherBull forced the football team to wash the vandalism off of Li and Lin's diner and benched themBull washed Les and Lisa's car when Lisa was undergoing treatmentBull helped set up the Lisa's Legacy runs, as pointed out we see this in the start of Act 3Bull spoke up on Les' behalf at the hearingA retcon showed that there was one time when Bull faked a bullyingHe told Les that he bullied him because he envied him, and because Bull was hit by his own parents, and it was why he had to bench Matt Miller when he learned Miller hit Susan Smith. And am I reading it wrong or was Les actually Bull's Best Man for the wedding?Les interacts with Bull on a regular basis. If he was still traumatized, he would go out of his way to avoid him. That said something I forgot about was there was a comic where not only did Les forget about his and Cayla's anniversary, he also forgot that Summer and Keisha showed up for the Run previously. As I said before I don't think Batiuk would do this but Les suddenly forgetting what Bull did for him could be easily combined with him forgetting those other things as him starting to have some memory problems.
>>151954102I liked the part where she told Cayla: "He's gonna scream my name during sex because I'm better than you, darkie."
>>151955417Bull was one of the most kind and caring people in the strip who MORE than made up for his shitty teen years, and the fact that he went out how he did makes me legitimately angry. Happy New Year in Heaven, Bull. You deserved better, and Les should be burning in hell with his whore wife.
>>151951262>>151955413
>>151952259This comic along with the week where Batton Thomas talks about Flash of Two Worlds along with the time travel stories and things that he seemed to have completely forgotten during Act 3, were what made me think he was heading for a multiverse reveal, but it turned out to be a time travel thing. I still believe the multiverse explanation would've worked better.
>>151955417>And am I reading it wrong or was Les actually Bull's Best Man for the wedding?Yes, Bull specifically asked him to do it.
>>151951966this is probably supposed to be a Murder in the Rue Morgue homage, but I still don't get why the monkey can talk.and if Batiuk had any balls at all then he would have included the part where Fatty Arbuckle raped that chick with a Coke bottle>>151952618I loved that. I wish the entire comic was about PBM.>>151952745I have two serious guessesOne is that PBM is the guy that was eating pizza out of the Montoni's garbage in Act II (I forgot his name)The other is that it's The Eliminator aka Crazy Harry's wife
>>151956820>One is that PBM is the guy that was eating pizza out of the Montoni's garbage in Act II (I forgot his name)Wade? We see him in Act 3 needing to use a walker. I'm not sure he'd be able to do the things PBM does at this point.
>>151952835>They also show up in the final Sunday strip so you cann probably eliminate anyone who appeared in thereThere's actually somebody missing in that spread that would fit in perfectly where the PBM is sitting. That person also works with the "Who said I was a man?" line.
>>151952283Well, that was abrupt.
>>151955705I still think this is the ultimate Funky strip. It basically encapsulates the last 15 or so years.
>>15195748915 or so years of the comic, or of real life
God damn, this shit SUCKS!
>>151951352it's so wild to know the comics are so recent that the politics references still feels relevant
New Years Bump
>>151952669>football players get brain injuries from impacts even wearing a helmet>so Bull wore a helmet so his brain wouldn't get injured from the impact of the car accident>so his brain could be used as an example of brain damage caused solely by football game impacts while wearing a football helmet and not car accident impacts while wearing a helmetWas Batiuk's brain melting at this point or something?
Bump
>>151959417Football players have been taught for decades to lean into hits so helmet to helmet impacts are on the top of the head. Wearing the helmet in his car means that the face guard would take the impact against the steering wheel/console and not his forehead.
>>151959417I think he just doesn't know as much as he thinks he does. That or it was a way of showing that Bull is still dumb.
>>151959417Maybe he was bullied in high school
>>151961399Wouldn't surprise me.
Bumpy Binkerbean
Today covers 2020I'll be honest, of all the fake comics in this series Wayback Wendy feels like the only one that would have any legs as an actual real thing, albeit as a children's comic.
You do not take fewer sick days or personal days than anyone else. You're never at your jobs. Dinkle in retirement works more at the school than you do.
I hope you like Les being a whiny childish bitch because he's going to act like this throughout most of this movie story.
Which one is Cindy and which one is Cayla? It's like looking at twins.
Time Janny returns and is going to be seeded in throughout school appearances.
>last panel of the third stripAnother indicator IMO that he knew he was ending it for the 50th anniversary since that echoes the final line of the final strip.
>>151963269Two more years to go right?
>>151963269That's the problem with reading ahead to try and comment on things. I meant that for THIS week's strips. Basically, the prevailing opinion at the time seemed to be that this got axed out of the blue and Batiuk had to cobble together an ending but I think reading it with the benefit of hindsight, ending it was a plan he'dhad for a while and he began seeding things a few years in advance.
>>151963305Yeah, 2022.
Boo, bring the girl back not Slab Flexgains.
This is the last we'll ever see of Buck Bedlow. Maybe he drove off to kill himself too.
>>151963347Shit, next thread will be the last, I’m still in act two and don’t want to be lost.
>>151962981>Bellend Les goes to HollywoodGreat, the perfect storm of the worst parts of Act 3.
Another appearance of everyone's least favorite self-insert. I can at least forgive these first few Batton Thomas appearances since they mostly seem to be self-deprecating. It's the ones after this that are the problem.
Les is seriously an absolute chode about this whole thing for no real reason. Especially to Mason who's his friend at this point and he knows means well. Then again, this is the guy who made his best friend come groveling back to him for laughing about him having two women interested in him.
>>151963443>what an unfairly under appreciated guy I a-I mean he is!Fucking Hell, Batiuk.
>Lisa's Story is about how Les lost his young wife to cancer.Yes, LISA'S Story is actually about Les; Lisa is the mere "young wife" whose terminal illness and death are there to make as feel bad for LES.Obviously that's not Les saying that but ultimately that's really what Lisa's Story is about. It's about Les and his whininess over the "purity" of it comes off more as him merely wanting it to be presented in the way that is most beneficial to himself.
>>151963066I wonder if, on some level, this was the result of Batuik thinking he should have had Les and Cindy wind up together.
>>151963079I feel like this would work better if she didn't look the same age as Mindy who is like a third her age.
>>151962965HAHA WOMEN DO BE SHOPPING THO RIGHT LADS
>>151962981That's at least the second time he used the shitty 'swipe your credit card for oxygen' joke
>>151963589I guess that depends on if the changes to Cayla's design were just Ayers' choice or a result of Batiuk telling him to make her more conventionally attractive which just turned into making her Melanated Cindy because he wasn't really sure (or cared enough) to work out how to draw a woman who can be aging but still maintain some level of attractiveness.I think Jessica's mother is the only one where it really seemed to fit well into being older but still attractive, compared to Cindy who just seemed to stop aging in her mid-30s.
>>151963024Les should have been in that car, not Bull
>>151963066They look like fucking 2B and that opposite color version of her in the white dress
It really would have been funnie if it WAS Frankie
>>151963117Honest question here: Did he really think readers would be super invested in all these random old comic book people?
Les, if you don't want people to know or ask about those videos why are you leaving them out in the open where anyone can find them? Also, I thought the VHS tapes were tossed out when Summer had Crazy digitize them.
>>151963665He really is at his most irritating during this storyline. Like this strip.
>>151963589I did start wondering about that when I first read >>151963066 and >>151963466 years ago
>>151963716I think from 2014 on he was increasingly making the strip more for himself than for anyone else.
Of course it was going to be Mariane, because they'd already decided that's who it was going to be which means the entire audition process was pointless and they even admitted earlier it was basically a formality. I don't particularly HATE Marianne or anything but yeah, the entire point is just to have Les there so he can admit "okay she's not so bad".
>>151963783>PointIs that like an Ohio or Midwestern thing? This strip and Sluggy Freelance are about the only places I see it used that way.
>>151963716To be honest, I'm not invested in any of the young comic people either. I have a hard time caring about anyone that came after Wally.
>>151963843I think this was another story hinting at retiring from the comic. Harry Dinkle says the first 9 volumes of his autobiography have been published--Volume 9 of the Complete Funky Winkerbean was out that year.
>>151963742He looks so much like Dobson's cartoon for himself before the blue bear here. Acts like him too.
>>151963763>protect LisaFuck off. It's a goddamn movie, they aren't exhuming her fucking corpse and raping it. Jesus christ this is getting intolerable. 2 more fucking years then we're free.
This starts the big ending to this story which is, for some reason, a story playing off of the 2018 wildfires.
>>151963783Oh no someone dyed their hair a fun color, this will not stand! Les is a fucking bitter old faggot.
>>151963881Oooh Les is not gonna like THIS one bit.
>>151963896>shooting a basic exterior shot of a park bench on a sound stage>in fucking 2020This fucking movie is going to be The Room tier.>YOU ARE TEARING ME APART LISA
Batiukism Alert: climate damage.I thought it was Batton that coined this but forgot it originated here. This is going to now be the chosen Funkyverse nomenclature for climate change, effectively replacing that term. Why, since nobody has ever called it that? I don't know. Maybe Batiuk thought he was making it seem more urgent and thus would spur more action towards it.
>>151963959
>>151964052I should mention, this is the debut of Jfff's inner child which he'll bring with him back to Crankshaft. Really another example of how this has become increasingly made for an audience of one because I don't think anyone else cares about The Phantom Empire this much.
>>151964064>I was saving Lisa all over again.Way to minimize and ignore that it was Wally who saved your lives. But hey, I guess California had to burn to the ground so that Marianne could win Les's approval to play Saint Lisa.
>over sixty-fiveThis isn't a mistake. Remember the next reunion is going to be the 50th reunion so Funky and the Act I crew are now, by this point, around 66 years old. Remember, Batiuk wants these stories to be taken seriously but then does shit like this. This would also have to mean that Dinkle would be in like his 90s and would put characters like Wally and Rachel in their 50s, Darin and Pete in their 40s/close to 50s, Summer should probably be in her 30s, etc.
>>151964104That cave is actually a tunnel; all of the films that used it just shot it at an angle that prevented the camera from revealing that.
Not even Rocky can escape the Montoni's waitressing gig.
>>151964183Cliff Anger and Vera Nash also really throw things out of whack since Cliff was in a '50s serial and was harassed by HUAC but was also a contemporary of a silent filmmaker.
Yes, it's Montoni's vs. ICE.
NOBODY IS NAMED AMICUS BREEF! In all of the stupid, lazy pun names of the later years this is the stupidest and laziest.
At this point, Trump was still president and I'm sure that his administration would have done something because Bill Clinton made some calls. The whole thing is just completely nonsensical.
And this totally serious and relevant story ends with a fucking bad sitcom ending.
>>151964376Also I wonder if this would even work in 2030
>>151964408By 2030 Clinton could very likely be dead so a ghost president calling from the afterlife probably changes things.
>>151964376>Trump was still president and I'm sure that his administration would have done something because Bill Clinton made some callsThat perhaps doesn't seem so unlikely any more knowing their mutual friends.
Wouldn't they be able to tell from the voice if PBM was a man or a woman? Unless the costume also has a voice changer which, given the story for next year's visit, isn't out of the question.
>>151964427Wait I think we also established that one guy was dead AND we saw his ghost but turned out to be alive
>>151964482That's next year
>>151964395This one hits a bit differently after seeing that video the other day of ICE agents arresting a guy outside of a supermarket and then divvying up his groceries for themselves.
>>151964499I guess the colorist has no idea how a rainbow works
>"Salad days" is a Shakespearean idiom referring to a period of carefree innocence, idealism, and pleasure associated with youth. The modern use describes a heyday, when a person is/was at the peak of their abilities, while not necessarily a youth.
>>151964615What the fuck ever happened to online band turkeys you dont even have to touch or deliver? He did like an entire week about that for fuck's sake.
>>151964670Random Maris appearance.
Wow, Summer AND Keisha get an entire week.
>>151963443I learned the other day that as of 2019 Beetle Bailey was in 1600 papers. Eat that Batton.
She lives!Anyway, that's it for this year; next year will cover 2021. Lisa's Story finishes production and is released, Dinkle starts working with the St. Spires church choir and in Centerville and the Atomik Komix crew heads out to Comic-Con to honor Flash Freeman and Ruby Lith.Yeah, it's a slow year.
>>151964728Didn't Wade buy those Superman figures and everybody got mad at him for thinking he was using the credit card for frivolous things instead of repair materials?
>>151964800>next thread might be the last assuming it can survive 24 hours after the 2021 Storytime
>>151965009I’m rushing through act Ii and I’ve gotten to Dinkle’s redesign, honestly I don’t hate it because he looks like the lantern-jawed competent man he is, though his sendoff could have been much better.
>>151965123I just love how Harry from what I’ve seen still manages to deflect all the misery around him, his uniform must have been made of Teflon. Even as an old man he’s able to hurt his masseur lying on his front.
>>151965163Well I finally finished act ii, I might just go ahead and jump in now. Lisa’s death reminded me of my own mother’s death from cancer a few years ago, i don’t really know how to process it.
>>151964690>about to wrap up collegeSo it's been roughly 4 years in universe between their graduation in 2012 and 2020. Yet somehow Funky and the others aged 4x that.
>>151965843Going by the ages in Part 2 versus Part 3, that ten year timeskip for Summer and Jynx's age group somehow turned into seventeen years for Funky's group.
>>151964949Yes
>>151964336I'm fairly certain that software can't have a racial bias.
