Generations ago, when people had lots of kids, it was common for adults to have a fuckton of nieces and nephews. Adults could relate to this dynamic more than they do now.

Before WWI it was common for people to have between 5 - 10 kids in the US which is part of how the popular expanded so fucking rapidly.
