Watching S1 and S7 it feels like watching two almost completely different shows. That being said, I honestly thought S1 was a pretty forgettable show for the most part.

Also, despite what I've seen some people over here claim, S2 is already very different from S1 and it's where modern Gumball truly starts. The very first episode of S2 ("The Remote") feels like it was written and developed as a second pilot to soft reboot the show. And it wouldn't surprise me if that was actually the case. The huge art style changes, the Wattersons becoming more cynical and jaded, less focus on Gumball and Darwin being kids, etc.

Then you have episodes like The Job or The Fridge, also very early on in S2, that feel like they finish the job (pun not intended).
