Funny how nobody cares for Bilbo.

>Captain Marvel is public domain
Would be funny if someone at Marvel decides to use him
>>
>>151958313
>Pluto
>Betty Boop
>who gives a shit x3
>>
>>151958313
They let Plastic Man go public domain? That’s crazy, he’s such a fun character.
>>
How long before we get a Betty Boop-themed indie horror movie?
>>
>>151958460
If it’s not titled “Boop-Oop-a-Doom” I’m going to be very disappointed.
>>
>>151958313
>anons are still sucking off the Public Domain while hating on Wicked
kek
>>
>>151958460
It's called boop and it will probably come out march-july
>>
Gonna make a movie where Dagwood is a cannibal killer who makes giant sandwiches out of his victims.
>>
What are the odds that Batman or Superman will get a good retro movie once they're in the public domain? After all, people are already making fan shorts and movies of these characters.
>>
>>151958527
Yes? That’s not a contradiction. You can like the fact anyone is free to use the IPs without having to like everything anyone uses them for. It’s not like franchises remaining in copyright results in higher quality output, how many official remakes and reboots are absolute shit?
>>
>indie horror movie about Koko the Clown
You know it has potential if they stick to his uncanny rotoscoping and "rubber hose" animation. Then again people would probably compare him to Art the Clown.
>>
>>151958313
So now we're going to see such great public domain works such as?
>>
>>151958527
I'm sucking off Pd because it allows anyone to make full restorations of the film to preserve it
>>
>>151958313
I want to see someone try to use Namor and immediately get sniped by Disney
>>
>>151958405
Hobbit isn't PD until 2033.

Have you seen the steamboat willie movie?

Thats what we are gonna get... Not to mention who gives a shit about koko the clown and bimbo the dog?... and how the FUCK did their copyrights expired AFTER Mickey mouse!?, those 2 are WAY older than him!
>>
>>151959080
huh
>>
>>151958313
The Question, really? Now this is a good start for 2026
>>
>>151958313
How many times must it be said the public domain is dead. Trademarks ensure you will be sued. Anything created in the last century is off limits. The only thing at most that you can do is horror slasher parodies. Never a genuine adaptation of a character.
>>
>>151958441
Not even Pluto but his prototype design and name Rover. That dog wasn't even Mickey Mouse's pet until later and lets face it people are waiting around until the COLOR versions of the characters are available. And that means waiting like ten extra years because the Modern Designs of the Mickey Mouse cast didn't start until Fantasia.

Only for the most normalfag shit like Betty Boop or Mickey, which even then you can skirt around using them in various ways
There is no trademark for Flip the Frog for example. In a few years when his final shorts are public domain he will 100% be in it with no restrictions

>Only for the most normalfag shit like Betty Boop or Mickey, which even then you can skirt around using them in various ways

Yeah didn't a studio literally use The Grinch for a horror movie recently? Except he wasn't called The Grinch but rather The Mean One.

Copyright law is so dumb. Its set up so it lasts so long, that the people currently alive in any timeframe wont give much of a shit about the character offerings available. Even when I am an old man, shit from my childhood will be off limits, so I wont get to see any creative projects by those talented artists and animators once stuff from the 1980s and 1990s and early 2000s becomes public domain. It should expire much sooner than it does.
>>
>>151958609
They have a decent chance because they are more globally well known characters. The problem is even if their early copyrights expire we know Warner will do a Cease And Desist action if you try anything.

And I curse the Tarzan and Zorro estate for setting the example of that. Even if you go by copyright expired material you will get into trouble. These shitty estates always interfere wanting royalty money. And you can bet Warner will imitate that tactic in the future.

I agree. And lets face another thing, not many properties can truly stand the test of time. Examples like Batman who is closing in on a hundred years of existing? That's rare. Most properties simply don't have the timeless appeal. And maybe to a certain degree this is what companies want, for the property's appeal to dry up so that no one wants to bother making anything.

For example if someone were to make a Felix the Cat movie right now we know it would fail because its been so long that no one cares about Felix anymore. Well that and we have a SPAM of trashy cat media like Gumball and Lackadaisy and that stupid Blender Cat movie that Pixar is now ripping off as well. Yeesh Felix would be uninspired and superfluous.
>>
>>151958445
DC never trademarked the original run right. They've been Public Domain since forever just like the 40's Superman cartoon.
>>
>>151958656
>how many official remakes and reboots are absolute shit?

The biggest victims of this in modern times is Ninja Turtles. The original creators allowed and invented horrible ideas for the first Ninja Turtles comic. And later after the creators sold Ninja Turtles to Nickelodeon, well.....we got Rise and afterward Seth Rogen's bastardization.

The Ninja Turtles have taken a real beating.

Tarzan got a huge blow, since all of Burroughs works entered in life + 70 years countries, and Zorro is also nearly entering alongside Wonder Woman.
