Why is it so bad? I feel like most of the writing is just fucking manchild behavior mixed with swearing since it's "cool". What are good examples of the worst bit of writing you found so far?
>>

>Why is it so bad?
Cynicism. Lack of sincerity. An unearned sense of smug confidence.
>>
>>151960981
Most of them got neutered by Tumblr not to have any interesting ideas so they're limited to things like “EPICALLY subverting tropes” in the exact same ways. They have nothing interesting to say about life, social dynamics, etc because they accepted the idea that being accurate and honest is offensive, and drawing mentally ill blobs is wonderful.
>>
>>151960981
How do we counteract millennial writing? Is it as simple as being sincere in your storytelling and not being concerned with appealing to the masses?
>>
>>151961084
Only write visual gags and occasionally puns

Because kids love it while you don't. The problem would be that it's used in stuff not aimed at kids. Other than that it's the same thing as your parents not liking the stuff you liked.

Groomer moment
Shit being made by the animation industry, Stranger Things season 5, etc is being ridiculed and picked apart across demographics.
People did not see Jurassic Park or Looney Tunes as childish garbage, porn addict.
>>
>>151961019
I don't think Millennials have much confidence at all. That's why they have a hard time being sincere in their writing.
>>
>>151961143
Gen Xers are less sincere than Millennials. At least Millennials have some shame about it, though.
>>
Younger Gen Z seems full of sociopaths and schizos raised by the internet. Granted, my exposure to Gen Z is mostly through the internet.
>>
You guys say "millennial writing" as though you're not millennials yourselves.
>>
>>151961303
They're the most sincere, everyone find them cringe for this specefic reason. While zoomers are behind 1000 layers of irony
>>
>>151961356
I rejected the decisions they made and they tried to humiliate me for doing so as if I couldn't possibly have an alternative, until I showed them my alternative.
>>
>>151961273
>People did not see Jurassic Park or Looney Tunes as childish garbage, porn addict.
People ABSOLUTELY saw Looney Tunes as childish, esp. in the 90s and onwards. Boomers by and large view all animation as childish, even now. Touch grass you shut-in schizo fuckstain.
>>
>>151961352
Important to keep in mind the internet is fake as hell nowadays, and a significant portion of the worst people online aren't actually real people or actually as popular as they seem. Basing opinions based on what you see online isn't always reliable, especially now.
>>
>>151961387
Boomers grew up with families all enjoying Looney Tunes. Cartoons like by Filmation or DIC could rightfully be viewed as garbage children’s shows.

>it's okay when Dispatch does it!

I am of the opinion that using these marketing buzzwords to determine how you are supposed to feel about billions of humans constitutes "falling for" a psyop. Using such a broad general label for millions of people is textbook obfuscation. They use oversimplification and extreme generalizations to get you to hate specific subgroups by pointing out traits from superficially similar individuals. Unfortunately there is no antidote for this, the common person's pattern-recognition instinct is too strong to delicately parse out intricate nuance, the brain gives up trying to differentiate and just concludes with the simple stereotype being proffered. It's an intractable social problem.

You're not allowed to call things gay and/or retarded on TV. If you could then "Millennial writing" would just be what you hear on CumTown.

It's also that the joke doesn't land when everyone is just being meta for the sake of being meta.
Go back to one of the patient zeroes here. Rick and Morty. The first two seasons where everyone was on board.
The 'meta-humor' wasn't just quips and cynical dialogue. It was that all this stuff was stuff that's treated as mind-blowing in other sci-fi but Rick is so jaded that he brushes it off or already knows the realistic reasons it's gonna go wrong.
Even seemingly lore important stuff like the Citadel of Ricks hinged on a fundamental meta joke that Rick doesn't care about the lore and has long since decided to move past his then unrevealed backstory.
For the first two seasons, the writing room clearly had enough of a love for sitcom tropes and weird sci-fi content to know how to undercut both.

The game Dispatch pivots back and forth between being pretty sincere and some of the worst examples of this I've ever seen.

>>151961142
I don't even think kids like it, I think it's a case of picrel
>>

Millenial writing killed Stranger Things.

>started off as a suspense/horror show with some supernatural elements thrown in the mix to make a spiritual successor to the Stephen King films
>turns into MCU slop and "I DON'T LIKE GIRLS"
>>
>>151961677
That's the most surprising thing about watching Rick and Morty, is despite the fandom's insistence that it's a "smart" show, you discover it's actually just parody of low-brow film/tv culture.
>>
>>151961669
This. If you want to see how "millennial" writing actually becomes a problem, look no further than people like Randy Pitchford.
>>
>>151961677
>>151961704
anyone who watched all of Community knew exactly what was gonna happen with Rick and Morty. People blame 'the women writers' but Dan Harmon has a very clear pattern once you've watched enough of his shit.

They probably had a bunch of different writes for each episode because everything in the middle is peak but the start and end are so ass.
At least we got retarded tomboy gf out of it.

Take millennial writing and make all of the characters aggressively gay. Get the gayest sounding people on earth to read all of the dialogue. Use Will & Grace and Tyler Perry as the blueprints. Everyone will clap.
>>
>>151961356
it's just the commonly accepted shorthand for that distinct "infantilized edginess" that's immediately obvious when you first see it. I'd have called it something else, but the YouTuber coined the phrase and everyone went with it.

Op is literally Gen X writing, dumbass.

All the “millennial” writing has been done by Gen X.
>>
>>151961325
This brings up another point, how much of what people call "Millennial Writing" is actually "Gen X writing?"
>>
>>151962904
It's like "millenial grey" that is actually from gen x. Most millenials were in their 20's and couldn't efford a house in the 2010's
