I think they wanted to check as many diversity boxes from the getgo in lieu of making an actually compelling and cohesive show. And the real shame is that on principle I don't have a problem with an avatar missing a leg, it could make earth bending extra challenging for her and give her a unique struggle. But after the last 15 years of mainstream media I don't doubt for a second that its going to be a footnote at best and that the message will be that the chuds just need to accept that her having a debilitating injury is hecking wholesome and valid. And the fucking gay shit, guess they wanted to get their favorite shield up early. The only redeeming factor Iv seen is the supposed post apocalypse setting, better to acknowledge Korra's stupid decisions late then never.
