During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak (Zlatko Burić) is remaking the superhero film “Wonder Man.” These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film.
Plot details.>Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is a struggling actor looking for his big break in Hollywood who gets a chance to audition for the reboot of the popular 80s superhero movie “Wonder Man”, to which he has an emotional connection as he had watched the original movie with his late father as a child. Simon is secretly a superhuman himself with super-strength, super-speed and the power to cause massive explosions.>Simon befriends Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), who is attempting to rebuild his acting career after his stint as the Mandarin and becomes Simon’s acting mentor. Trevor is ultimately cast in the “Wonder Man” remake as Wonder Man’s mentor Barnaby.>The supporting cast includes Simon’s girlfriend Vivian (Olivia Thirlby), Simon’s agent Janelle Jackson (X Mayo), “Wonder Man” director Von Kovak (Zlatko Burić) and Department of Damage Control agent Cleary (Arian Moyaed), who is investigating Simon.>Josh Gad and Joe Pantoliano play fictionalized versions of themselves where Gad is a beloved Hollywood star and Pantoliano has a past rivalry with Trevor.>Byron Bowers plays minor comic book character DeMarr Davis/Doorman. In the show, he is a mutant with the power to turn himself into a portal and a struggling actor like Simon who works as an actual doorman at a nightclub after an on-set incident got him blacklisted and banned superhumans from working in Hollywood.>One episode features Simon visiting his family in San Fernando Valley. Unlike the comics, in which Simon’s father Sanford Williams was a corrupt industrialist and his brother Eric Williams becomes the supervillain Grim Reaper, in the show Sanford (Béchir Sylvain) was a loving working-class Haitian immigrant, while Eric (Demetrius Grosse) is a successful insurance salesman who disapproves of Simon’s acting aspirations.
>>151973077I remember when Marvel made the Eternals. I thought "I just don't care" this is less than that.
Wtf? I clicked on this and it didn't take me to Right Said Fred's hit single, Wonder Man? What gives?
>>151973077>Movie about making a movieRiveting.
>>151973152Birdman was pretty good.
I'm guessing this is going to do horribly with normalfags considering how obscure he is and how the name makes it seem like some Wonder Woman ripoff/genderswap
>>151973085>X MayoIs that supposed to be a name?
>>151973085>Unlike the comics, in which Simon’s father Sanford Williams was a corrupt industrialist and his brother Eric Williams becomes the supervillain Grim Reaper, in the show Sanford (Béchir Sylvain) was a loving working-class Haitian immigrant, while Eric (Demetrius Grosse) is a successful insurance salesman who disapproves of Simon’s acting aspirations.Yeah of course
>>151973077>mutantI might have given it a chance but not anymore. Why would they add mutants? Do they even fucking think at all?
>>151973077I like how the trailer is modeled after some twee indie movie.
>>151973215I guess Eric won't be racist then?>>151973134HEY KIDS, REMEMBER THE NINETIES?
>>151973077>nigslopNo thanks.
>>151973077I prefer this Wonder Man:https://youtube.com/watch?v=Zj9akZLbcAA
>>151973223>Why would they add mutants? Why would they not?
>>151973161Birdman had a real director. Only hacks are hired for capeslop.
>>151973077My old roommate was almost cast as a minor character in this.In one of the episodes there's going to be a scene where some cops are going around Los Angeles trying to find people cooking and selling drugs to local kids. It ends up being a bunch of upstanding, White upper-middle class businessmen, but before they realize they have to unpack their microaggressions they erroneously assume it's this house of gang banger Mexicans living down the street which leads to the following exchange:> COP: "Alright, put your hands up!"> Gang banger: "Aye Esse, we ain't doin' nothing, homes. We jus' be making candy, man."> COP: "Candy? You mean like drugs?"> GANG BANGER: "Nah, foo. Candy! What'chu know about Chamoy and Tamarindo?"And then it turns out the Gang bangers make homemade candy to sell to the local kids because they're upstanding entrepreneurs.Screen cap this.
>>151973085That's the worst series of sentences I've ever read in my life. This is going to be so up it's own butt it will make She-Hulk look good.> Set in Hollywood > About being an actor in Hollywood> Has real Hollywood actors playing "fictionalized versions" of themselves. > Also Haitians are more American than Americans and Hollywood actors are the real superheroes.
>>151973085>>151975423Oh, also there's going to be a bit where he calls himself: "Pasadena Man" before he gets the courage to call himself Wonder Man
>>151973085Why remove the idea that a hero's brother becomes a villain? That is SO fucking central to Wonder Man. Why? Because he's black now, so one around him can be a bad guy? They did the same shit with Prowler and Miles Morales in the Spiderverse movie. Just make him a fucking villian. There are good and bad people regardless of skin color.
>>151975544> Because he's black now, so one around him can be a bad guy?Yes, that's it exactly.
>>151973077Shove it up yer HOLE
