Is this the animation world's biggest credit for doing nothing?
>>
Probably. As a kid I didn’t know what any of these credits meant so I assumed this was the mastermind behind Tom and Jerry simply because his name was saved for last and the biggest

Almost
The biggest is having your name in the title

>doing nothing

now to be fair he did actually finance the cartoons, even if he did so in a way that eventually showed how awful the entire premise of Tom & Jerry was and killed the IP
>>
>>151978565
Quimby is a bit like Eddie Selzer at Warner Bros., a studio executive from the days when they were faceless people who just wanted to make the boss happy and retire with a pension.

Selzer didn't take a producer credit, but I don't know if that was his choice or the studio's.

>>151978614
do you think WB, who didn't even have an animation division until Spielberg approached them, would have made any animations at all without his involvement? maybe you'd like Warner Bros.' named taken off these cartoons as well on the grounds that Jack Warner died 40 years ago
>>
>>151978565
historically I'd say Pat Sullivan who went out of his way to delude people into thinking he drew the Felix the Cat cartoons in addition to financing them, refusing Otto Messmer's name in the credits

>looked up Pat Sullivan's wikipedia page
LMAO
>>
>>151978663
Yeah desu I know Spielberg had nothing to do with the creative decisions made on Animaniacs but he was absolutely important in making the 90s animation renaissance happen. People don’t wanna hear it but he was as important as people like John K in getting normies interested in animation again.
>>
>>151978565
It was definitely a sign that you were about to watch a great classic Tom and Jerry cartoon.
>>
>>151978663
They could have made it Amblin Entertainment Presents instead of making it look like he created the tv show (no one else's name appears in the opening credits, so until the internet took off everyone thought Steven created it)
>>
>>151978565
Hey! He did perform the dehumanizing labor of picking up Academy Awards for MGM animated shorts.

Does there exist a sign you're about to watch a shitass Tom and Jerry cartoon?
>>
>>151978614
While working on Freakazoid, Bruce Timm said that Spielberg was pretty involved with censoring the cartoons. So the crew had to workaround a lot of things.

Tim Burton on The Nightmare Before Christmas
>>
>>151978565
Ya know what, thanks for posting this. Ive been getting through a Judge Dredd novel, "The Final Cut", lately and Dredd stories love dropping pop culture references and gosh darn if they didn't use Fred Quimby as a block name. I've been trying to remember who that was until now. Thanks for saving me a Google search.

Tim Burton wrote the original story and designed the characters. Only thing that stopped him from actually directing was Batman Returns.

He has literally done nothing for the shows except write his name on illustrations and promo pics he didn't draw.

Goddamn I hated this shit. It wasn't funny and had dogshit animations. It was like "Tom and Jerry but make it The Flintstones with the great gazoo" seeing that title card always filled me with disappointment.

He has writing credits on Colonel Homer, Some Enchanted Evening and The Telltale Head. Also on 22 Short Films, but that has 12 credited writers.

Also credits for the pilots of Futurama and Disenchantment, and Futurama's Rebirth and In-a-gadda-da-leela, with the Futurama pilot being the only good one of these.

Their animation division was founded like a decade before Tiny Toons' release

I wouldn't be surprised if there are a bunch of episodes of the simpsons he's never even seen.

Producers pay for it all.
Executive producers are an abstract title with no real meaning, but gives them access to a union retirement system.
>>
>>151978632
MGM financed the cartoons. Quimby's job was to make sure the animation units didn't spend too much.
>>151978719
Yeah, Pat Sullivan was a piece of work . . . or another four letter word.

Good one. Sounds like a joke from an early 2000's cartoon.

I bet you like his Hobbit adaptation with Bilbo's house being invaded by Gandalf, Oakenshield, and Princess Ohsee Donutsteel so they can enlist him to defeat Slag with the Arkenstone too, you disingenuous clown.

No.

To me, the most telling sign that Jones didn't understand T&J was the fact that Tom tried to eat Jerry in almost every single cartoon. There were almost no instances of that happening in the original Hanna Barbera shorts, where Tom and Jerry just beefed for the sake of beefing.
My guess was that he wanted to make them a sort of spinoff of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner without really reading into the core premise itself.

This. Deitch's work may not be great, but Jones just completely misses the mark with it.
With Deitch, you could see he hated T&J, but at least understood it. Chuck fucking Jones did not understand T&J.

On the actual shows? Very little but was heavily involved on their respective pilots and early production, hell there is an almoust infamous story story about how he spend and entire work day casting the latam voice for homer simpson until bumblebee man approached him and got the job in the very end.
Now on the tracey ulman era? He was heavily involved.
>>
>>151986590
The Jones ones aren’t as violent or chaotic as the Quimby run

I think the animation is just softer as a whole, even more so than his later Road Runner cartoons
>>
>>151980022
Gene’s cartoons are interesting in their own right

His owner in those shorts sucks tho, fuck that fat white guy
>>
>>151980683
Still the most memorable. I hated T&J growing up, and these episodes might be why.
>>
>>151987914
You haven’t seen real T&J till you’ve seen Jerry slam his fist into Tom’s eye with the loudest THWACK you’ve ever heard
