>>151978851why is it taking this long for anyone to learnhave all companies just been completely automated for the last 16 years?
>>151978898Why has it taken so long for companies who have spent decades marketing based on "the niche who will buy the most shit" not doing that?Your average normie is just going to buy one glass of their favorite characters. Making this much of a character who doesn't poll to the same level is just fucking stupid
>>151978851I work at the Superstore. The only glass people ever bought was the Iron Man. The others never sold
>>151978851These Matt Smith Doctor Who figurines have been collecting dust at my local Ollie’s for well over a decade. There’s also a Melissa McCarthy Ghostbusters figure that’s been sitting there since 2016. I check for it every time I go.
>>151978898Every major company (which basically just means the 3 megacorps that split all IP in the world between them) is "informed" by the same handful of consulting companies that read the tea leaves of twitter metrics and confuses the internet with reality. So they just keep making the same mistakes over and over again because thats what their market research tells them must be true.Like, try and explain the decision making behind all of the Sony movies that are about spiderman villains but with no spiderman. You can't. No sane person would ever so much as suggest such a thing, but they've made... like 6 of the fuckers?
Why won't moms buy Marvel merch with women for their boys?
>>151979001Why haven't you taken all the Arcee's and made a harem/army yet?
>>151979050Boys don't care about the girl characters. Especially not all the ugly & boring ones in the MCU.
>>151978851Reminds me of the Dump Store near me that gets all the overstock crap other stores don't want, Ollies I think it's called. Seems like a cool business plan. You don't want it, we got space, Dump it here and we'll sell it making little money on unwanted junk.
As someone who just move to a new house, .50 glasses would be a great buy for the kitchen
>>151979001Have long have those Mega XL darts been there?
>>151979001Maybe those doctor who figures would have sold if they didn't look like cheap shit. Figures are supposed to look GOOD god damnit. Why would you buy a figure you don't want to look at on your shelf every day?
>>151979001Mine still has a whole section of Shang Chi toys.
>>151979216These glasses are apparently very fragile, which helps explain the overstock. Though, them all being Black Panther and Black Widow also suggests character unpopularity.
>>151979836Back when I used to work dead-end retail job with the other meth heads, we would sometimes get a chance to secretly break a whole bunch of fragile stuff, such as these glasses, or similar items like plates and dishes or ceramic household decor. It's so satisfying throwing breakable objects at brick walls straight up Bevis and Butthead style. Man I would love to go back to those times.
>>151979889Go back to doing meth?
>>151979563Its criminal how ass western 'collectibles' are. What kind of psychopath actually wants a funko pop plastic homunculus in their living room?
>>151980139Not many & that's why they've fallen off to just be ugly shelf warmers.
>>151980003I still do adderall and it's the same shit.
>>151979563>why does the $9 toy for kids not stack up to the $400+ statue for adultsooo truly a mystery for the ages
>>151978851Zombies ate your neighbors? Better grab the squirt guns, and some silverware in case werewolves show up.
>>151979216I would buy them just to fuck with people. They'd open the cupboard to grab a glass and it's all black widow glasses
>>151978851Now this is just sad...
>>151980232lol damn
>>151979563You are not going to find good quality figures in a supermarket or big brand store. Need to go to a niche hobby store or online toy store to find that. Barnes and Noble also sell decent figures.
>>151978851haha did they assume people would try to collect them all like pokemon when there's no room in the fucking kitchen already?
These are a pain to clean, so people didn't really want to collect em all.
>>151980314Kek
>>151978898Because everything is automated or based upon generic “data“.>Avengers stuff sells >People talk alot about female superheroes>There is alot of Black Widow “fan art“>We should do more Black Widow merch! On paper it could work, but there are fine differences that will never be represented in any data.
>>151979071>>151979050Wrong, boys care about them, but only the porn and cheesecake art!
>>151979748Half the toy section seems like generic brown woman characters and other minority types no one cares about, makes me wonder if Twitter has ever been up in arms about the implicit racism of the Ollie’s toy aisle.
>>151983147That's not caring. That's enjoying eyecandy. Which again is lacking in the MCU since Iron Man 2.
>>1519803145 bucks and you get a full cupboard of guest awkwardness, worth it.
>>151983189They'll take it as a win seeing full shelves of brown women, completely oblivious of the survivor bias
>>151983503Boys care about their masturbation material!
>>151983576No you don't understand!
>>151979001>how come there are no female Transformers toys
>>151980267Seems like the majority of Transformers fans still think everything should cost the same as items from 20-30 years ago. They completely disregard or show zero interest in understanding simple things like inflation and dwindling economies of scale. Kids are more interested in screens now. Then they are hostile to other fans who skip the all ages bots and pay for the higher end figures. Quite telling from their photos of how nice their homes are on the average. They try to come off as "poor me's", while also going into tangents like the extensive list of cars they have owned or their latest vacation trip. I've noticed the vast difference in the cool bot fans who post here from the rest of the internet.
>>151984803Yeah, but that's no reason to kill them!
>>151979563anon that's a limited run $2,000 figure. Of course it's going to look good. Most people would rather spend no more than $30 on a Doctor Who figure, and that's for the Doctor himself. When you get to the supporting characters, the price they're willing to pay drops. It's why 3 3/4 Star Wars figures could replicate every minor character ever seen in Star Wars for under $10, the Black Series mainly covers main characters and notable bg ones, and Hot Toys only really does the most popular designs. The more you pay, the more niche a toy becomes. The big issue is costs have gone up while the price most people want to pay remains about the same. A figure that was $10 in the 2000's costs much more to produce now. but the collector's market isn't necessarily making more money, at least not relative to the value of those toys. Even the JP collectors market is full of examples of tripling or quadrupling prices, and that's the most ideal example of a market for collectors. You can call it corporate greed, but you can't avoid inflation and part of the reason shareholders will buy into a company is a return and profit on an investment, so companies look at ways to make profit while cutting costs.
