Question to aging millenials only, zoomers need not apply: what cartoon did you regularly watch not because you enjoyed it, but because there was nothing better to do at the time or because it aired just before something you actually liked?
>>151995231So many cartoons depended on a captive audience and never had to actually create a good product.
>>151995231I remember getting sick and staying home or going to the doctor and in the waiting room it would always be played 2 stupid dogs not a bad show just kinda mehHumans were not made for on demand entertainment
>>151995231There was a lot of shows on Fox Family that were this. I would just watch some shitty shows because it was what was on. I think I liked two shows on that channel, Big Wolf On Campus and Kids From Room 402, and I would sit and watch some truly atrocious shit in between.Like Da Mob. Probably the worst cartoon I can recall watching.
>>151995231rocko, rugrats, wild thornberries, lloyd, little Elvis, probably a couple of others that are obscure that I forgot, most of them I found boring as hell.still, I do miss that era there were some banger shows.
>>151995231George Shrinks and Caillou
>>151995271Big Wolf on Campus was so gay, I remember main characters always groping each other and having intense interactions in general while every female love interest they had was bland as fuck
>>151995318I don't really remember it. I just remember liking horror action stuff. Like a little kid Buffy or something.Or, really a knock-off Teen Wolf, but I also didn't know that at the time.
I liked Jimmy Neutron, but for some reason in my country they bought and dubbed very limited number of episodes and kept re-running them, I remember during the course of one summer I watch each one three times
>>151995231Most nicktoons. I’d switch nickelodeon on and spend all of my free time watching their cartoons by default, but I don’t remember really liking any until Invader Zim and Avatar. Rugrats especially was a show that I watched endless hours of, but never would have picked out of a lineup. Rocket Power, too, to a lesser extent. The Wild Thornberries was an interesting case where, when it first came out, I was convinced it would be my favorite show ever, but then I wound up not really liking it.
>>15199523I'm not a Burger so many of the shows had different vibes because of a different dub butIndeed, CatDogHey ArnoldCare BearsDisney Classics aside when Goofy had a narrator those were kinoTex Avery ShowA truckload of Frankobelgian remakes that came out already when I was still a kid, like nuMasupilami.Mr. Bean AnimatedWinnie PooWinnie Poo if he real for even smaller childrenWhat's with Andy?Cow and ChickenTom and JerryNorman NormalFlinstones, I might have to watch again these days though, same with AlfAnd many more I probably forgot/don't care to look up the names for. You can ad all the "AD anime" too aside from YuGiOh but this is /co/ I guess, god I wasted my life even as a kid.
>>151995231things I personally like or things I remembered
>>151995231I'll probably get flack for this, but pic related , due to it being one of two shows to air before the Fox Box.
>>151996534I don't even know what it is
>>151996534This show was peak public access tv saturday morning.
>zoomers need not applyNah fuck that, I got lots to say about this. I hated how every time I turned on the TV as a kid it was always Spongebob or Phineas and Ferb playing on it. The new seasons of Spongebob (at the time) fucking sucked and P&F got stale overtime. Thank God I had OnDemand at the time cause then I could watch KND or MLAATR or Pucca whenever I want. TV schedules sucked ass.
>Football Head, Aaaah Real Monsters, The Wild Thornberries and to an extent Rugrats on ABC (It was either them or games shows or the channel 10 news)>P B and J Otter on Saturday Disney (It wasn't bad, just for little kids unlike the rest of The Saturday Disney lineup)
>>151995231The one with the robot girl along with the chalk kids were background noise when you were waiting for someone to show up so you can race scooters, go over to someone elses house to see if they really had the new demo disc, bring their control for Crash Bash or Twisted Metal, etcYou can tell no one cared because nobody talked about them like they did whether the football episode was better than the fifth grader hazing hunt (Hey Arnold), why the xmen were better in spiderman than their own show, why is zoids so boring but you still watch, that sort of thing
Usually whatever was on daytime CN because I wasnt gonna watch Nick Jr, I hated Disney, and game shows were boring. I feel like it was almost always Scooby Doo, then when I was older Cow and Chicken or Courage (the latter of which I grew to enjoy).
>>151995231I didn't have cable at home, so I watched a lot of PBS kids, and Arthur was the show that was always on in the morning before I went to school and in the afternoon right after I got home. I actually like it a lot in retrospect, but at the time I would have given anything to be at my grandparents' house, where I could watch Nickelodeon instead.
>>151995231anything on Nick that wasn't Spongebob or Klasky Csupoanything on disney channel was completely forgettabletons of canadian syndicated garbage that hit CN and these other channels, I can't think of any CN shows I actually hated at the time.
>>151998385I think point of this thread were the shows that were alright if there was nothing better on the other channels, but not something you would actually seek out
>>151995231Tiny Toons, I was never a fan but it was usually on before other things I liked came around. Same with Goof Troop, I tended to watch it since it came on after Darkwing.>>151996534Most Family channel cartoons were this for me. Littles, Super Mario allstars, they were just ways to kill time in the after school lineup until Batman or X-Men came on.
>>151995231Foster's Home For Imaginary FriendsRugratsRocket PowerMost other Klasky Csupo cartoonsCamp Lazlo
>>151995231I kind of want to say most Nicktoons.I liked Rocko, Zim, and Danny Phantom, and early Fairly Odd Parents. But any other I just sort of sat through until one of the ones I liked came on.Rocket Power or Chalkzone were the only things that made me genuinely change the channel. But on weekends, there were few options outside of Nickelodeon and Disney channel.
>>151995231Before 97-98 this was how Cartoon Network played out for me. I never cared about any show that came on it specifically except for Dexter's Lab and space Ghost Coast to Coast. And those only came on around 9PM. The rest of the channel was more filler when Nickelodeon had something I did not like on. Even then I usually kept things to Looney Tunes or Superfriends. I did not really care about the old 70s Hanna Barbera stuff.
