Where were you on October 10, 2010 when Discovery Kids was shutdown in the USA? I still think shutting down Discovery Kids was a big mistake
>>
>>151998907
It's last 4 hours were a Kenny the Shark marathon that acted as a sendoff for Discovery Kids. In fact, Kenny the Shark was the only show that aired that day, because starting at 10AM, Discovery Kids died

I stayed up all night and into that morning to see it go at my grandparents house in my aunt's room, it was sad to see it go cause that's the only channel where I could watch Time Warp Trio, Tutenstein, Mystery Hunters, and Truth or sacred
>>
>>151998907
Did this have anything to do with the Discovery Channel with stuff like Mythbusters, or are they completely separate things that just have the same word in their names?

"Ready or Not" has been stuck in my head for almost 20 years
>>
>>152005058
I remember that show and Hip Hop Harry
>>
>>152002902
It had a completely different lineup of shows. It was a kids version of the Discovery Channel and it even had animated shows like Kenny the Shark, Tutenstein, The Magic School Bus, Tracey McBean, Time Warp Trio, Growing Up Creepie, Grossology, and The Future is Wild, though Tracey McBean was long gone by the time Discovery Kids shutdown

They also had a preschool block of shows with live action shows like Hi-5 and Hip Hop Harry along with animated shows like Peep and the Big Wide World and Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks

I remember because that was quite a momentous day for another reason. I'd post an image, but I'd get b&.
>>

Why did Discovery Kids shut down? This actually pissed me off because it was a channel entirely dedicating to inspiring kids about the world and getting kids more curious about the world
>>

Amazing Animals never aired on Discovery Kids USA
>>
>>152000834
Splat! never aired on Discovery Kids USA either. This thread is only about Discovery Kids USA and how it was a big mistake to shut down a channel that showcased kids the world and inspired kids to learn more about the world around them
>>
>>151998907
The final words ever spoken on Discovery Kids was "What!? You always get the front flippers!" from the Kenny the Shark segment "Who Framed Kenny the Shark"

Why did Discovery Kids not add anything in 2008 and 2009 and most of 2010 before the channel shutdown? The last show ever added/last one premiered on Discovery Kids was The Future is Wild in October 2007, 3 years before the channel closed down
>>

I'm obsessed with Discovery Kids and to this day, I still have no fucking idea why they killed the channel

Fuck David Zaslav. He's the reason the channel died! I wish he never became CEO of Discovery
>>
It's funny that Discovery Family is now under Cartoon Network.
>>
>>151998907
I don’t remember much about that part of my life but I do remember really liking Discovery Kids. A lot of the shows were unique and weren’t afraid of making some spooky shit. Like Truth or Scare (R.I.P. Michelle Tratchenburg) or Growing Up Creepy.
>>
>>151998907
Since Kenny the Shark was the final show to ever air on Discovery Kids, I'm wondering if anyone here remembers anything about that show

I have autism and Discovery Kids was something I loved. I still have no idea why David Zaslav killed the channel

>>152005459
Because they acknowledged they weren't going to beat Disney, Warner and Viacom when it came to kids? They stopped their deal to supply programming to NBC's Satam block, which meant all shows were going to live and die off of their viewership on a niche cable channel.

Willa's Wild Life was originally intended for Discovery Kids USA, but I guess they dropped out: http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2008/04/08/discovery-kids-2008-2009-upfront-slate-enables-young-imaginations-to-run-wild-27204/20080408discovery03/

>my kind of autism is better than your kind of autism!!!
>>
>>152007413
Hasbro should have never done that, because The Hub was just a stupid channel only made to sell toys and it was a gigantic failure. Nobody watched that network and nobody liked that network which is why it only lasted 4 years. Discovery Family sucks too

They should've never gotten rid of Discovery Kids and Discovery Kids should've been basic cable as well. The fact that a channel mostly dedicated to new (at the time) shows was on digital cable was stupid honestly, especially for a channel that wasn't cynical at all. It was earnest in inspiring kids about the world and getting them curious about the world
>>
>>152007510
I don't even get why they stopped their partnership with NBC. That was a big mistake. Had they continued their partnership, Growing Up Creepie, Dinosapien, Bindi the Jungle Girl, and The Future is Wild could've aired on NBC. Grossology on the other hand probably would've just been exclusive to Discovery Kids channel since it was an import, just like how Tracey McBean, Serious, and Mystery Hunters were just imports

Because they had to pay NBC for that air time and they obviously didn't think it was worth the money. The ratings reports I've found for that block suggest it was competing for the least watched of the Saturday morning kids offerings. Its nearest competition was Nick Jr. reruns on CBS, not KidsWB.

Which is why they stopped funding kids content. They sucked at making things kids wanted to watch. The cable channel was niche so it likely couldn't support huge investment on its own, but the SatAm block was also unpopular, so that offered little support.
>>
>>152008548
I still have no idea how 4Kids TV of all things had higher ratings than Discovery Kids on NBC. Yeah, I know those 4Kids TV ratings are low, but I saw other places where stupid crap like their bad Winx Club dub, their crappy Sonic X dub, and that crappy Bratz show got like 1.7s or 2.2s or something, much higher than Discovery Kids. The 4Kids stuff is unwatchable so I have no idea how they performed better than DK stuff
>>
>>152008806
Years-old Disney Channel reruns clocking everyone but KidsWB should upset you more. Even worse when you consider that Disney somehow got the FCC to believe their shows counted as E/I content.

4Kids had brands I recognized. Sonic, Kirby, Ninja Turtles. What did Discovery Kids have?
>>
>>152009831
The Discovery Kids on NBC block had Time Warp Trio, which was based on a book series of the same name. They also had a kids version of Trading Spaces called Trading Spaces: Boys vs Girls when it came to familiar brands
>>
>>151998907
Why isn't anyone responding?
>>
>>151998907
Honestly, a huge mistake The Hub made when it replaced Discovery Kids was replacing the Discovery Kids shows (which weren't even that old) with old shows that ended long ago like Batman Beyond, Men in Black, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Adam West Batman, the OG Transformers and GI Joe, etc. Part of what made Discovery Kids good was that it didn't air a bunch of old shows. Kids don't want to watch old shows and The Hub made a shitty mistake doing that. That's the main reason that channel died after just 4 years
>>
>>152009413
That's not what beating a dead horse means.

>>151998907

"Beating a dead horse" can also be used to describe futile or unnecessary efforts, not just tired discussions.

In the first place, it was a loud minority that was upset about MLP. GR15 would have never been made if moot's e-mail hadn't been held hostage. Enforcing a rule that no sane person wanted is even dumber now that nobody cares.

>>151998907
Seems weird to me that they shut down the channel in the US, in my country they kept going until the present day. What did they air? I wonder if it was any different from what we got.

in my bedroom happily witnessing the launch of the brand-spanking new Hub Network, which was way more exciting than boring ass Discovery Channel Jr. too bad discovery was retarded about the whole thing and didn't make an effort to expand the channel's distribution which led it to crash and burn in less than half a decade.
>>
>>152018017
How was The Hub a better channel than Discovery Kids?

>>152017970
It was mostly live action shows like Endurance, Strange Days at Blake Holsey High, Truth or Scare, Flight 29 Down, Darcy's Wild Life, Saddle Club, etc. That being said, they did have a few cartoons like Kenny the Shark, Tutenstein, Time Warp Trio, Growing Up Creepie, Grossology, and The Future is Wild

They did also have a preschool block as well like Hip Hop Harry and Peep and the Big Wide World and Hi-5

>>152018375

>>
>>152018749
How did The Hub have more variety and broader appeal? They didn't really have any good shows on it. Pretty much all the Discovery Kids shows were either only on in shitty timeslots or completely removed when the channel became The Hub, with the only ones staying on in good timeslots being Tutenstein, Endurance, Strange Days at Blake Holsey High, and Truth or Scare

Plus, The Hub felt more like a boys network. I mean, Men in Black reruns? Batman Beyond reruns? Transformers Prime? G.I. Joe Renegades? Dan Vs.? Those were very boy targeted. Discovery Kids on the other hand, felt a lot more gender neutral and many of the shows on Discovery Kids even had female or co-female lead (Darcy's Wild Life, Scouts Safari, Truth or Scare, Tutenstein, Kenny the Shark, Growing Up Creepie, Grossology, The Future is Wild, Magic School Bus reruns, and Strange Days at Blake Holsey High to name a few). Pretty much all the shows on The Hub felt aimed at the male demographic

How come there have been more threads on /co/ of Dan Vs than the Discovery Kids shows? I prefer the Discovery Kids shows to Dan Vs because Dan Vs felt more male centric in its cast than female or equal?
