So likely the Asylum incident happened prior to his stint as a street performer and then he showed back up in the 40s (likely as Jack Grimm II) to buy the asylum as a goof.

Spent the next year learning the inns and out of the asylum and then left with a bunch of loons to continue his killing spree. Maybe to hide how he's not aging or maybe just because he got bored. Joker then came back sixty years later pretending to offer to buy the asylum and in the end revealed to Amadeus who he was and the secret body buried in the asylum. Amadeus left a notebook that was a record of all this and tried to send it to the captain of the police department before burning down the asylum in hopes of preventing Joker from buying it and turning it into a lunatic machine. A lot of backstory for the Joker in this run and it's side stories so far. Surprising really.

This is all teetering on being villain stuff but it's not focusing on them as it's all in the service of making Bane the biggest threat Batman has faced. But yeah you're probably right that Manbat is just going to be a minor dude to scuffle with and be thrown out after a while. Likely just a clue to give Batman direction again.

Just that both, alongside the other childhood friends, are classically rogues, who both show up and do stuff in the Bane arc but it wasn't a matter of Batman vs Bane + Harley + Killer Croc.This won't be Batman vs Deathstroke + Ivy + Manbat. Manbat might be one small fight, he might even be immediately infected by Ivy and just part of her issues, or maybe he wont be a fight at all and will have enough of his previous self to, like Croc, help in the fight. Ivy is probably not a long-term villain because she is sort of the first outright hostile "villain" in Abs Batman who is not just a huge piece of shit but is instead being treated as product of the actual villainy, like Waylon. It's likely she'll get contained again or maybe even like in Fear State and Everyone Loves Ivy, get talked down and release Gotham to instead lurk at the edges as a sort of dangerous neutral figure. Deathstroke is the actual bad guy being lined up here and I wouldn't expect to see him until the other two are already dealt with.Also a whole bunch of new covers for the Ivy arc are out.
