>>152013101He was really trying, but he was cursed with trying to make moves during one of the the most turbulent periods in animation history. He attempted to move his animation incubator to Youtube which worked and managed to get some shows syndicated before they changed their algorithm which completely fucked anyone working on long-form animation. He tried to pivot to VRV which ended up being a dumpster fire of a disaster. He dropped all of that and tried to start a new production company in Fred Films, but by that time nobody was buying original IPs anymore. He tried to ride the wave as long as he could, but finally ended up retiring. Dude is well into his 80s, so it was probably a good idea. It just sucks because he was a lifelong "creators first" advocate (something that started with his work in jazz record production and followed him into TV). Fred was a good one and it sucks that his career was riddled with so many misfortunes. He could have been this generation's Vanessa Coffey, but he got fucked by corpos (both network TV and Youtube) chasing the dream of infinite growth.
