I feel inadequate just trying to analyze his art. He's the only comic artist that actually intimidates me.
Alex Toth never stayed on a comic long enough to establish a run because he was such a prickly personality. An editor would say the wrong thing, or the writer would object to him making wholesale changes in the script. He would blow up, tell them to fuck off and leave.I guess Space Ghost is his most lasting contribution. He designed the characters and did about 40-50% of the storyboards. He also did some work on Jonny Quest. But that was animation, not comics.He did some good work on the western Johnny Thunder in All-Star Western, and some good SF stories in All-Star Comics and Sensation Mystery. If you can find them, look them up.
