Today is St. Joan of Arc's birthday.
Can we have a thread about her appearances in cartoons and comics? For a peasant girl of tve XV century, she sure is popular in foreign entertainment.
Ironically, i can only think of her appearance in the Night at the Museum cartoon.
Anyway, post jannu.

I vaguely remember a crossover series between Witchblade and some obscure, possibly French comic series with and immortal and/or reincarnated Joan of Arc. Anyone know what I'm thinking of?

Don't you mean The Magdalene?
She is part of the top cow universe and, of course, it's based off Mary Magdalene.
That said, i found this comic with Jannu as the MC.
>Jeane is back on earth
>Does oddjobs for heaven as an angel warrior
>Mary Magdalene is trapped in hell for some reason and is in talks with Lucifer
>Jesus is in love with Magdalene but can't intervene for heaven political reasons
>Jeane decides to go there to save her herself
>Cupid tags along for the lulz
This sure is one interpretation of christian mythos, lel.

You are now aware that in the image comic batshit crazy lore, Joan of Arc is a temporarily genderbend, amnesiac, time displaced, captain american ripoff brainwashed to be christian.
>>
>>152022362
what
>>
>>152022369
Image Comic was a 90s comic publisher, they had their original characters but also their "not superman" and "not captain america", etc. Prophet was their captain america but also some Wolverine backstory and time travel mixed in, also mental conditioned to be christian so he doesn't become an evil living weapon.

Anyway throught two different unrelated comic event things happening at the same time in the comics he ended up in the past, turned into a woman, and with memory loss. But still badass and christian and ended up being Joan of Arc all along.

I always assumed (and probably a few other people) that Lute from Hazbin Hotel was formally Joan of Arc as she kinda looks a lot like most deceptions of Joan of Arc with her hairstyle and Medieval like armour while also being/living in heaven like all the other saints, but I and those other people could be wrong as it's never revealed yet how Lute came to be.

No, of course not. I found it, it was called Blood Oath. I misrembered, Joan is only in it as backstory. The immortal one is her companion Gilles de Rais.
It was a crossover between Witchblade and French superhero characters Phenix and Sibilla.

I like Joan's story a lot. Pious pure tomboys are my thing. But let's be real here: no one would want to or ever put what they did to that girl on record, especially after the pope excommunicated everyone responsible. The idea men left her alone because she wore their clothes is just ridiculous.

It was literally a major point of her trial that the english accuserd her of whoredom then it was proven by english priests and noblewomen that she was still a virgin. She was never raped. If she was a none virgin they would have had a field day but found nothing helping their case and fueled their seething at her.

The idea that Joan of Arc must have been raped is just feminist nonsense.
>>
>>152026359
what
>>
>>152026366
The only reason why we ever talk about this is because Andrea Dworkin believed that since all women are victims and all men are victimizers, that Joan of Arc must have been raped while in captivity. It's only because of radical feminists peddling the idea that anyone gives it any remote attention.

So you think the insane farm girl who was part of a major military campaigns, involving multiple highly vindictive factions across the continent, who ended up getting burnt to death for heresy, after a sham trial meant to desecrate her image and status, lacks contemporary accounts suggesting rape

because people respected her too much?

A Japanese take on the Czech legend set in the Hussite Wars that for some reason decided to include Jeanne, likely for the sole purpose of drawing her rape.

Crossdressing was a crime, anon. And saying God talked to you was grounds for heresy.
They were just being complete shits about it because of all the tensions.

Raping a helpless prisoner, in spite of those tensions when she's probably the most famous women of the age, would look bad on anyone
>>
It's still hypothesized Joan may have been because that one guy changed his account of what she said to him. Plus, her deciding to change into men's clothes in prison anyway.
>>
Gonna recommend 1,000 Years of War, an unhinged post apocalyptic version of the story of Joan of Arc.
>>
>>152026670
>after a sham trial meant to desecrate her image and status
It wasn't a sham trial. Joan of Arc was claiming divine inspiration for her violation of social conventions, which was a direct threat to the religious order. It wasn't that she was crossdressing, but that she justified her crossdressing on the basis of divine inspiration. She was also a peasant woman, not a noble woman, so she lacked the aristocratic legitimation for mobilizing an army.
>lacks contemporary accounts suggesting rape
The only way you can argue for rape is by assuming that it must have happened, regardless of the facts.
>because people respected her too much?
If she was raped, then it would have been brought up to condemn her for being a harlot.

>>152026807
>>152026907
Your transposing modern morality into a medieval society. It's not just that she cross-dressed, but she did so on the basis of divine inspiration. Hence, she was directly violating moral norms in the name of God.

>>152026944
>Raping a helpless prisoner, in spite of those tensions when she's probably the most famous women of the age, would look bad on anyone
Joan of Arc was not an aristocratic woman. If she was raped, not only would the rapist be given a slap on the wrist, he would have bragged about it to everyone. And it would have been used in court against her, as a sign of her sinful nature.

>>152026664
>after investigating ourselves, we have found we have done nothing wrong
Well, for one, the virginity investigation wouldn't have maligned the investigators.
>>
>>152020130
I remember her being in Miraculous Ladybug, as one of the previous wielders of the Ladybug, and I think she gives romantic advice (across time somehow) to Ladybug in that episode.

>It wasn't that she was crossdressing, but that she justified her crossdressing on the basis of divine inspiration. She was also a peasant woman, not a noble woman, so she lacked the aristocratic legitimation for mobilizing an army.
Wasn't that just the English viewpoint? I thought the leaders of France (as much as there was a united French state at the time) had already tested her claims before Joan was actually in any major battles. That the interim King was all, okay if you can prove you aren't talking shit about the visions we won't stomp you out right here and now.

You can think it is insane, but that's how it was.
If a woman was raped, it was her fault.

>Get that faggot GRRM subversive deconstructionist nonsense out of here.
I have literally no idea what this means, bud.

>>152027185
The French didn't intervene in the trial, even though they could have. If she was a noblewoman and had justified her mobilizing an army on aristocratic grounds rather than religious grounds, then she wouldn't have been tried and executed. There were other women in the medieval period that commanded armies in armor (e.g. Joan of Montfort), but they were aristocrats and fought wars on a secular basis. Nobody wanted a peasant woman warring against other Christians in the name of God.
