Not many people are used to the idea of moving, especially kids since they lose their friends and effectively have to start from scratch socially. Might not matter as much for those who are really introverted and barely had any friends, but really sociable kids will feel like their lives are being uprooted (which it basically is). One of the few movies that gets the relationship between kids and adults to a T. Anyone who thinks otherwise is dumb.Ironically that makes it a perfect movie to grow up with. At first you side with Coraline, and then gradually, you side with the parents, kind of like Malcolm in the Middle. Doesn't work as well if you were a parent in 2009 when you first saw it, probably why it didn't do so well.
