I'd argue Spongebob is the most influential cartoon of all time. Bigger than Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. Spongebob has been deeply embedded in society for the past three generations, and was the face for meme culture. Has yet to show any signs of stopping, and will most definitely outlast the Simpsons and Family Guy.
>>152026762Why did the newest movie flop then
>>152026762>Spongebob is iconic because of twitter memes
It is popular and it used to be good but what did it actually influence?
>>152026881Its essentially edged all competition for cartoons in western markets through monopolizing Nick into airing nothing but for the past decade or so. Made itself more memorable through memes than anime has for most.
>>152026762You make a pretty sound argument, anon.
>>152026817Because those retards released it in December instead of the summer
>>152028395or even october-halloween given it's premise
>>152028846>it's premise dumbass
>>152026817Because they can only rape Hillenburg's corpse so much before people stop watching
Once not too long ago, children could recognise Joe Camel before Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny. It’s not that high a bar to clear nowadays.
>>152030126bro is glazing a dead man
>>152027070Oh this has been going on for much longer than a decade now...
>>152030056wasn't the movie's premise about the flying dutchman and his ghostly pirate crew shanghaiing spongebob and patrick to the scary spooky underworld? or are we going to pretend that wasn't the case at all?
>>152026817>Barely any marketing until literally the last possible minute >Released it on the same day as James Cameron's Avatar slopIf they had pushed it to, say, February it probably would've done better. But I'm sure there's other factors like the fact that this is the fourth SpongeBob movie they've put out this decade, two of which were during 2025.And one of those was a streaming movie.Space them out a little more, make them just theatrical releases and it probably would've done good. I'm sure it'll do well once it does hit streaming though, I get the feeling most parents felt it wasn't worth seeing SpongeBob when they already saw Avatar and you have to sell parents on this shit too.
>>152026762No. Popularity ≠ influencal otherwise we can't say Mobius influenced anyone because he's pretty obscure in the grand scheme of entertainment from the Normies POV. SpongeBob clones and shows inspired by it never really became a big thing. Not saying it isn't somewhat influencal, but to be the most influencal cartoon means it affects other artists and sets the standards. Ren and Stimpy is influencal, you can see it's DNA in shows and webcomics well past the shows life span. Family guy is influencal. I hate the style but it's basically the default for American animation. What media was inspired by SpongeBob and did well?
>>152032357>What media was inspired by SpongeBob Oh, I can name at least FIF-- >and did well? Hm.
>>152033053Patrick looks so CUTE in his knit sweater!
>>152026762Why do basedlennials think they're the last generation to exist? Kids today don't know who Spongebob is, they like Skibidi toilet and Charlie Kirk Agartha edits.
>>152034966>Kids today don't know who Spongebob is ain't no way you seriously believe this
>>152026817zabu jard
>>152026817Because it looked childish and unfunny as hell.
>>152035573They know SpongeBob in the same way most zoomers know Homer Simpson; as a brand icon rather than an actual character
>>152037258I think Mickey Mouse would be a more apt comparison
Dragonball is easily influential than Spongebob
>>152037726more*
>>152037726Do the Japanese even care for Spongebob?
>>152037258Simpsons isn't as well known among American zoom zooms because Fox was stupid about its syndication>>152037635Mickey is just a brand icon to zoom zooms because Disney intentionally constructed him that way
In before the schizo claims that Buster Bunny is a more influential figure than SpongeBob because his favorite studio animated Tiny Toons but not SBSP.
>>152026762Bugs is getting up there but I agree that SpongeBob's definitely one of the top recognisable faces>>152039597Speaking of which, we gotta summon him like a demon. 4chan is dying and we need a HERO to save the day.SUZUKI MICHIHARA TAKEUSHI MIYAKARA TANEKA. Come on boys let's throw in some random surnames and attribute them to Tom the cat crappingMASUYA
It’s not 100% accurate, but it’s more accurate than the one he’ll respond with.
>>152040081Optimus Prime should share (not replace) the spot alongside He-Man imo, considering that he literally got killed in front of many kids in the theatre who mourned his death to the point he got resurrected a whole TV season laterBut yeah this is very accurate anecdotally speaking
Pokemon rapes this irrelevant shit to death
>>152026762And yet I have always struggled to actually give a shit about it.
>>152026762I'd argue you need to find a job and stop seething at people that remember things before you do who keep reminding you you're fucking wrong about everything
>>152037726>Everyone's a beaner like me!
>>152034966>basedlennials>He tried to type the thingBut yeah, shitllennials are retarded and notoriously narciccistic and they think that the world belongs only to them and that anything common/popular in the 90s/2000s is relevant to them and only to them.
>>152040081Replace that weird mutt in the 2020's with Pomni.
>>152039576Stop using 4chan buzzwords, you sound retarded.
>>152040652Soul.
>>152040643I hate Spongebob as much as the next guy, but Pokemon is even more shittier and irrelevant, go back to f/a/ggot.
>>152040766I wonder if you would have an autismal seizure if you were forbidden from posting like a fucking retard.
>>152040773I agree, you could replace Luz with about anybody (except her equally shitty Amphilia twin) and it would be more accurate
>>152041144Keep seething, millennialtroon
>>152026762
>>152026762>Redditbob Maybe if you are a Redditor lmaoAlso the movie flopped hard
>>152026817I hate this baby Grinch.
>>152040081>Luz representing the 2020s lol
>>152026817cuz it sucked shit and everyone could tell from a mile away
>>1520400812020s should be bluey
>>152043434THE SSS (shadow spongebob seether) IS STILL ALIVE
>>152044147Huh. Glad I'm not watching it, lol.
>>152026762What exactly is Spongebob's influnece? Building a funny cartoon show around a setting?
>>152045198It's inspired generations of cartoonists
>>152026762Spongebob is highly satanic because it implies ANIMALS have SOULS
>>152045198Show themed transition wipes
>>152045381Spongebob did NOT invent those lmao
>>152045467Lies
Spongebob invented animation.
>>152045030>>152044147In social media I see that someone posted a gag of the movie (the Paramount one) and I tought that it was pretty damn funny, but at the same time I don't want to go back to Spongebob because I already considered it a stage of my life that I had already outgrown, but if the movie has this level of absurdist and surreal gags, I don't know what to say. The rest of the humor it's on the same level or it's not really worthy of buying the ticket and it's only one of a few good jokes? Also, I'm not really sure if I want to go to see it in a theater full of off-putting spergs in his late teens/early twenties obsessed with Spongebob, but still.
>>152045534WRONG
>>152045766You're never too old for SpongeBob
>>152026817>>152036554>>152044147>See credits>Written by Pam Brady Yeah, I wonder why it's flopping at the box office. Lmao.
Bump
>>152040081Fixed
>>152026762Kek
SpongeBob is the non-cursed version of Ren & Stimpy>Cartoon that became a phenomenon purely because it's funny>Seemingly none of the major crew members involved have been controversial or problematic >Creator was a chill but firm dude in what he wanted for his cartoon, He wasn't an asshole about his vision.Without SpongeBob it's possible the 90s cartoonist revolution would've stayed in the 90s
>>152049708This.
>>152048359agree with all but the 80s. i feel like there were way bigger cultural icons than transformer (or gi joe or he man)
>>152049708Spumcofags are gonna seething hard when they read this LMAO.
>>152049708>Seemingly none of the major crew members involved have been controversial or problematicWhat about the underground-comics authors involved in the show? Sam Henderson? Or specially Kaz?
>>152026762Not the case, The Simpsons' first 10 seasons has it beat and then theres anime.
>>152040081>>152048359Troll chart, here is the original.
>>152040627No, it's not, heres the accurate version >>152051289
>>152051076There's cartoon fans that don't even know these names, let alone normies.
>152051487>152051289Fucking called it>>152039597
>>152026762Okay but why bring this up?
>>152039597No, that is the god's honest truth, Buster Bunny has done alot more impact then SpongeBob.
>152052935>152052911Howdy Mister samefagging Hiyokoschizo.
>>152052935You never even have a CGI Tiny Toons movie with Ice Spice composing a song for the movie, therefore, SpongeBob has more of an influence.
>>152053051That would never happen anyway, plus people wanted Koji Kondo to do that CGI SpongeBob movie, not Ice Spice.Remember those recent SpongeBob movie threads.
>152053097
>>152053231No, it's the god's honest truth, people did want Koji Kondo to do a song for Quest For Square Pants.
>>152053097What? Nobody wanted Koji Kondo, dafuq are you smoking? Anybody who gives a damn about SpongeBob music knows that Gregor Narholz, Timothy Borquez, and Nick Carr are the dream team. Narholz for original composition, and Borquez and Carr for assorting a lobrary of music cues for the film.
>>152053353YES THEY FUCKING DID!!!! People were begging for Koji Kondo to do a song for SpongeBob for years now.I'm sorry, please touch grass.
>>152053353See>>152053231He’s now in the stage of “touch grass”, “get a life” aka “I have no immediate proof to back up my schizophrenic delusions so I’m gonna go ad hominem.”
>>152053383You're doing a poor job hiding your autism. Could you rationally and logically explain why Koji Kondo is a requested choice for a SpongeBob film...?
