>IRON MAN 3 writer-director Shane Black and his co-writer Drew Pearce originally meant for the movie to pull a twist inspired by ‘Remington Steele’. The 1980s television series starred Stephanie Zimbalist as a private detective who combats her clients' sexism by hiding her identity behind a male pseudonym: the titular Remington Steele (Pierce Brosnan), a con man who's happy to pretend he's a suave investigator.

>"Like ‘Remington Steele’, you think it’s the man but at the end, the woman has been running the whole show,” Black said. The fake-out man was meant to be Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), the character who became the primary antagonist in IRON MAN 3’s final cut. The woman would've been Rebecca Hall's Maya Hansen, a brilliant geneticist and the creator of the Extremis drug.

>However, Marvel executive Ike Perlmutter allegedly canceled the concept, claiming that a female villain wouldn’t sell as many toys as a man. "We were given a no-holds-barred memo saying that a female villain cannot stand,” Black recalls. “’We've changed our minds because, after consulting, we’ve decided that toys won’t sell as well if it's a female.’” Ironically, no toys of Killian wound up being produced.

>In the film, Killian's the ultimate mastermind behind Extremis, although he used Maya's groundbreaking research to create the serum. Maya reluctantly participates in Killlian's evil scheme until a crisis of conscience inspires her to make a final stand — a move Killian cuts short by abruptly shooting her in the stomach.

I don’t see how it would have improved the movie at all.

Nobody liked it because of the fucking "oh, you wanted Mandarin? Get fucked, retard, no Mandarin in this movie" shit. Should've just been the fucking Mandarin with the Makluan rings doing ring shit(and not fucking bullshit Mandarin we eventually got). Iron Man: Armored Adventures started airing the same year as the first Iron Man movie, audiences were PRIMED for Mandarin, when he was announced for 3 everybody cheered "yeah, fuck yeah, Mandarin is great" and then that shit happened

>Iron Man: Armored Adventures

Nobody watched that.
>>
>>152037977
>pull a twist
>it's literally the villain of the extremis comic
wew these faggot directors and producers unironically think they're re-inventing powder when writing these scripts, don't they?
>>
>>152038253
>Nobody liked it because -super obscure character only nerds care about- wasn't the villain
No retard, they didn't like it because the movie was bad
>>
>>152038892
I payed 500 dollars for the limited bluray at nickelocon because i wanted it that bad and i liked the show but then realized it was just a bootleg with a missing episnode
>>
>>152039046
>main character of the series that began airing at the same time as the first movie is obscure
You stupid NIGGER
>>
>>152038253
I will never understand why they did this. It was completely retarded, and I'm not even a big iron man fan.
>>
>>152039085
>>>>>>>>>>he thinks anyone gives a flying shit about a bad cartoon no one saw
>>
>>152038892
I did, unironically a pretty great Ironman adaption and I'd of liked to see that team do a Captain America or Hulk show with how well they handled the Rogues gallery.

The desire to subvert expectations.

okay boomer

I always thought this shit only plagued action cartoons, not major movies.
>>
>the first major female villain in the MCU was Hela in 2017
damn, they really didn't want bad bitches
>>
>>152037977
But why assume some normal looking guy in regular clothes sells better action figures?

Superhero movie needs a supervillain, not some guy in a regular suit and tie with fire hands. The decision to drop Maya changed nothing here. It's still some regular fucking person and not an Iron Man villain in the end.
>>
>>152037977
Yeah, that would not have made a difference.

The movie still baited audiences with a cool Mandarin movie where he does shit and fights Iron Man for months, only to switch to some 5th rate character nobody has heard of or cares about.
>>
>>152039112
Made by a director who fucking hated capeshit. Black thought he would be a fucking hero if he subverted typical capeshit only to surprise switch to normal action movie stuff with handsome terrorist mastermind instead.

Forgetting Iron Man viewers were actually there to see some capeshit, on purpose.
>>
>>152038253
It was giving you Osama Bin Laden instead of Fu Man Chu.
>>
>>152037977
>>152039542
But...you still get to make a Killian toy because he's still in the movie. You don't even have to make Maya toy. Is Perlmutter retarded?
>>
>>152037977
Be a butthurt fan of a bad franchise all you want, Ike the Kike knew the craft. When would anyone running the shitshow now have the sense to say no to that? They'd probably get a promotion.
>>
>>152039739
>Yeah, that would not have made a difference
it would be even worse actually
>>
>>152039752
>Made by a director who fucking hated capeshit.
He likes comics, he just wasn't a big Iron Man guy and he wasn't interested but RDJ begged him to come on board.

Marvel is terrified of offending China
>>
>>152037977
No point in having a random reluctant female villain. If you're gonna do that then use like Madame Masque. But that would require them to actually y'know keep villains in masks too.

>>152038892
I did. It was good & way better than Iron Man 2's Whiplash.
>>
>>152042081
That's the real reason Mandarin got a hard design & importance change. Oh but if China okays a movie (barely since they didn't like it either) like Shang Chi then it's suddenly okay. But Mandarin is still a completely different kind of generic guy.
>>
>>152039770
Magic Bin Laden fighting Iron Man would have been fucking amazing.
>>
>>152042115
I liked how almost like a Metal Gear Rising bad guy that version of Whiplash was, a design so good that Disk Wars just straight up reuses it.
>>
>>152037977
I thought that was Alanis Morissette.
>>
>>152038179
Fpbp
>>
>>152037977
>what if instead of that generic literal who it was this other generic literal who but female
Wow, so much of value was lost.
>>
This is Incredibly old info how are you guys just knowing this?
>>
>>152037977
that sounds pretty bad. that being said....

>perlmutter
>hurr durr won't sell toys

how the fuck is this still being used as an excuse for literally anything?
>>
>>152037977
I'd have sex with her.
