Why was Wally Wood so depressed? His art was great.
From Wikipedia:>For much of his adult life, Wood had chronic, unexplainable headaches. In the 1970s, following bouts with alcoholism, Wood had kidney failure. A stroke in 1978 caused a loss of vision in one eye. Faced with declining health and career prospects, he shot and killed himself in Los Angeles on November 2, 1981.[1][5] Toward the end of his life, an embittered Wood would say, according to one biography, "If I had it all to do over again, I'd cut off my hands."[58]Sounds like more than enough to plunge anyone into despair.

>>152047784I wanna say they were illustrators that worked in multiple mediums, or they had more strict art schools, or there was more incentive to draw as a trade, or some combination of these.
>>152047784Digital art isn't real art. Will never be real art.
>>152047784EC paid very well and had relatively easy deadlines because art was a big selling point for them. Old comic strips and certain companies like EC comics look as well as they do because they were big dogs paying sustainable wages and a legit job. Modern comics have faster tools but also have tighter deadlines relative to pay(i.e. you're putting in less work because you're barely getting paid enough timewise to sustain yourself and thus can't dwell on pages)A lot of these comics were also made in studios where artists had assistants or help or in some cases even have models pose for them. And when that wasn't available many artists would model for themselves. Conversely a lot of GA art looks rushed compared to comic strips because there was far less pay in most mainstream comic companies.
