> Jurgens Thor: Thor is mostly on Earth. Basically lives like a human.> JMS: Asgard is in Oklahoma for some reason.> Fraction: Still in Oklahoma.> Aaron: God of Hammers (lol), Lady Thor (lol), Thor wallows around without Mjolnir (who the fuck wants to read this). > Cates: Thor is still mopey and becomes the Herald of Galactus for some reason. > Ewing: Actually starts out amazing. Thor is in Asgard, in space, and he's doing epic shit being Thor.> Ewing Mortal Thor: Aaaaaand he's depowered again. lmaoIs it so hard just to let Thor run around with his hammer in space or in one of the, I don't know, OTHER NINE REALMS and do shit? Thor should be space fantasy, not earthbound mellowdrama.
thor suck
>>152048535Then he wouldn't be interesting or relatableThor as a character is BORING
More like THORING amirite?
>>152048535>Aaron: rips off and butchers Jurgens Thor
>>152048554Yeah, yeah, that's why Simonson's run is regarded as Thor's best run by miles—all the character work and earth drama. lmao
>>152048535you forgot Gillian's short run on Thor And Fraction had a lot of space and fantasy adventures
>>152048535Seethe in HELL Texnigger.
>>152048598> GillenYeah, I just kinda lump him in with Straczynski because of the Omni. It's basically the same thing. > FractionI actually like Fraction's Thor, it just would have been so much better if Asgard was in space and the earth stuff was cut entirely.
>>152048535why are you complaining about Mortal Thor like it wasn’t an explicitly telegraphed story arc?
>>152048535Thor is a dumb character written by pussies who wanted to be bullies, for pussies that want to be bullies.Ewing is actually telling a real fucking story though, with a complete arc, so of course you can't handle it. You're a pussy who wants to be a bully.
Bump
>>152048535Because nothing they do moves books. Change his costume, change it back, change the character, change his weapon, nothing moves Thor books. The only thing that used to move Thor was making them violent but that was the '80s.
>>152048875I tend to read superheros who are meant for polite people who want to be rude like Wolverine. Which heroes are for wannabe bullies as opposed to wannabe heroes and wannabe jerks?
>>152048535Writers love the relatable meme and sadly comic sales support that. Somehow fantastical and other worldy things sink in the comic medium.
>>152049152Punisher and Red Hood
>>152048535If I had a nickel for every time an Aaron run that destroyed a character was followed up by a Cates run that made things worse (specifically by making the character a Herald of Galactus), I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t much, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
>>152048535>if they be worthyThis will never not bug me. The thee's and thou's are a-okay, but "he" as a gender neutral is too archaic?
>>152049292They make sense but how does Thor tie into armed vigilantes with reckless regard for human life?
>>152049368It's about wanting the license to hurt, to punish, to mock. To be either untouchable by those you resent (Thor) or to make them suffer in proportion to your hurt feelings and anger (punisher). Impotent rage channeled into fantasy bullying or murder. School shooter shit.
I miss Jurgens era.
>>152048535Thor is a weird character because he's a God and a prince/king so he's already in a position of power and privilege from the beginning, which makes it hard for the average reader to root for him. It's why pretty much 90% of his arcs involve him getting humbled, learning humility or learning to be kinder. However, to do this they pretty much have to revert his character development every time he shows up again, and he keeps reverting into the pompous bully asshole so he can learn to be a better man again. They've tried to fix this in recent times, but the problem is he's been stuck in this loop of learning humility for decades so without that there isn't much to the character from a development standpoint. They tried to give him different problems by making him a king, but they tried to have their cake and eat it too by continuing to have him play Superhero for earth while being the leader of an entire nation. It just doesn't work, not from a narrative perspective or from a power scaling perspective, since he should be able to solve 99% of any issue earth has with the Odinforce/Thorforce. Ewing looks to be doing a hard reset for the character, which is needed and hopefully he doesn't fuck it up, but because of his popularity and the inevitable return to the status quo Marvel insists, I fear it's a futile effort.
>>152048583The Earth parts of Simonson's run are incredibly dogshit.
>>152048540fr tho
>>152052506> he's already in a position of power and privilege from the beginning, which makes it hard for the average reader to root for him.Doesn't stop anyone from liking Batman, Green Arrow, Iron Man, or any number of other rich characters. Hell, a lot of people even like the snobby rich characters. > It's why pretty much 90% of his arcs involve him getting humbled, learning humility or learning to be kinder.Which explains why Marvel editorial can't get Thor right—they're a bunch of metrosexual nepo babies that have a fetish for humiliating the "rich and powerful". They can't relate to Thor because they hate what he represents. Just like Spidey.
>>152048535The JMS one is the best of the lot, jurgens as the second
>>152048535You guys ever read Silver Age Thor? I’m highly tempted too since Ewing is a real one who references that stuff in his runs. Also it’s pretty obvious when he gets his powers back he’s just gonna beat the turd out of Loki and fight another villan
>>152048535I quickread worthy as horny
