>Today, Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert comic strip, announced that he has been on hospice care for “about a week now.”
>Based on how he feels today, he said: “I don’t know if there will be a show tomorrow or ever again. This might be our last show. This is going to be a tough week. Because I am doing some goodbyes in person.”

aw fuck. He's a real cool guy, I'm gonna miss him.
I hope he unpaywalls what was left of Dilbert, yknow.. kinda give us a going-away present. because I wanna read it but I don't pay for newspaper comics. especially when I already kinda didnt find it funny anymore after the 90s.
>>152054688
the apathy should be because it's a news story. and while it is possible for the news to do a story on reality, it's not a good general policy to behave as if any of it is real. The same as any fictional show might be based on a true story, but..
>>
>>152054610

I'm ... almost 94% sure all of these people believe that horrible things coming their way is already unavoidable (and mostly already have happened), and that's why they behave this way.
it's a really, really effective thing the devil does. convinces you you're irredeemable, and you spend the rest of your life not even bothering to be good because from your perspective, backed by life experience, you have nothing to gain from it.
>>
>>152054738
>and not that he's a dogshit unfunny cartoonist
Litetally not true, Dilbert was hilarious and the UPN cartoon that he wrote for was even better.

>who has made a career of dipshit work culture grifts
He had a career as a cartoonist and best selling author way before he started doing Trump shit. He was already rich too so it wasn't a grift, just his actual opinions that were misguided (to me)

>>152055057
yeah dilbert was funny as fuck in the 90s, and the cartoon was fucking five times funnier, it kinda put the comic to shame.
I still have the compilation 'shave the whales' which had funny commentary from Scott, and a foreword that is super funny, and suggests 'you could regift this book, but books never quite lie flat again once you've read them, so just put a little dogbert drawing in there and forge my signature and say you had it signed. I'll back you up. if the dogbert looks kinda bad, say my hand was broken that day"

He took the ivermectin too late. It helps prevent cancer but it can't reverse it, at best it alleviates symptoms
>>
Has any cartoonist in the last 30 years, ever been more successful (success = audience) and squandered their success more than Scott Adams?

I think he was the last horse in the barn for syndicated comic strips that where mega successful in newspapers before they closed that door forever.

Like, there are people who would never pick up a comic book in their lives who read and loved Dilbert in the newspapers and had Dilbert collections in their homes and at the end of the day what does it all mean?
>>

Maybe Bill Waterson, in that he just refused to work on anything else and didn't monetize a very lucrative brand, but I respect him immensely for that.

No, it doesn't. Ivermectin can kill cancer cells in a petri dish but so can a lot of other things; that doesn't mean it actually works as a cure for it.

>>
>>152056651

Dilbert got two seasons at a time when most UPN shows were one and done; the other UPN shows that got multiple seasons all had much larger audiences. If anything, it was given a lot more chances than most of their lineup plus UPN was the only network willing to order a full season to start with rather than a special or midseason replacement.

Even late series Voyager basically doubled or tripled Dilbert's ratings.

as usual you've picked one word out of a hat that is technically accurate to the story
what he said, without saying it, is that UPN was an extremely black channel and his incredibly white and nerdy show stuck out like a sore thumb. his lead-in was 'Homeboys from Outer Space' (which is actually a very clever show, but)

I'm a techcel so his older comics gelled with me, and it had one of the most underrated TV adaptations ever. I can respect the man's work at its best while acknowledging that he eventually became an insane narcissistic retard.
>>
>>152057292
Why can’t the private sector just cure cancer?
>>
>>152057321
I grew bored of the comics, then soured on the man over some pretty shilly behavior and the time he said actually he thinks the pointy-headed-bosses of the world are right and the engineers are wrong. By the time he went full MAGtard my reaction was a sigh and a "yeah, that tracks."

The cartoon was still fun.
>>
>>152057390
As his influence grew he stopped writing about the underdog employee and started glorifying the boss, it was so completely obvious and displayed an insane lack of self awareness. And yeah, this was years before the Trump shit.

>>
>>152057493

>>152057177
The cartoon was pretty good (barring the weird anti-evolution segment at the start of one of the episodes. That bit felt like I was watching a Bizarro version of Brian Griffin) even if the actual comic is the first thing I think of when I think of an unfunny newspaper comic.

I'm not only talking about 4chan, it's literally everyone. Didn't you read my post? Everyone! Bluesky and Reddit will ejaculate when this man dies. Society doesn't cares about every person that's in a bad situation, they must be ostracized if others don't like them. Their deaths will be cherished, and sometimes people won't accept it. Oh, but deep inside them, they know it's true. And it's beautiful when they proudly show these sentiments and are no longer repressed. We got many examples back in 2025. Thus, any debate about gay things like morals and values is redundant, unnecessary, meaningless. You shouldn't talk about that, you can't even respect a simple thing about human life. Mortality, and how fragile life is. Empathy? A joke.

Is it? Celebrating a stranger's cancer is just another way of being rude. It might actually be less bad because the stranger is unlikely to even see it.

Dilbert was popular when Adams was mostly doing "I hate my boss" comics
Thing is that those comics built a fairly left anti-business following and Adams was never left, just vindictive against a boss he'd had.
As his obsession shifted the pointy haired boss became a voice of reason as the "dumb asshole I hate" role got filled by racist caricature and his fans stopped reading.
Getting kicked out of the papers was just a formlity, really.

Also, for the record, Adams is an insane person that doesn't believe in a concrete objective reality. He genuinely thinks he can will things into existence by being stubborn.

RIP (soon). His old comics for the first few years were pretty good and I have some old collection books of his. He became an angsty twitter addict later in life and I strongly disagree with him, but those OG comics were great. It hasn't been funny for like 30 years, but the same thing happens to almost any comic that isn't mercifully killed off. I personally think the first few years of Garfield are pretty good but reading anything from the past 30 years would be torture.

>>152057749
The edgelord era is not over. Not yet. What has happened is that epic 4chan shitposter is now a mantle worn by corporations and governments on twitter and elsewhere, so it should theoretically become uncool in a few years.
I say 'should' because culture has become quite stagnant and people don't get sick of things the way they used to.

His books are better than his comics, IMO. His old books on the business world were funny. However, the main reason why I like the guy are his later books. Most of them contain a lot of self-help stuff that encourages people to use their brains and seek self-improvement. It's covered underneath cynical jokes, but there's a very positive core message in there.

I'm going to miss him when he's gone.

Everyone who supports Trump is complicit in his actions, because they gave him the power he needed to do those things. If everyone in America had gone "obvious conman is obvious" and didn't vote for him, we, the population of planet Earth, wouldn't be in this fucking mess.

Like, imagine knowing you only have a few months left to live. Any reasonable person would use that time for closure. They'd get off the internet, use their fortune to complete their Bucket List, They'd reconcile with family and old friends, and ultimately do their best to tie up loose ends.

Not the fucking Dilbert guy though. He's much too busy defending the honor of a grotesque orange pedophile and his cabal of ghouls for that. What a sad waste of time.
